Volume integrated phase modulator based on funnel waveguides for reconfigurable miniaturized optical circuits.

We demonstrate the integration of a miniaturized 30(x) μm × 30(y) μm × 2.7(z) mm electro-optic phase modulator operating in the near-IR (λ = 980 nm) based on the electro-activation of a funnel waveguide inside a paraelectric sample of photorefractive potassium lithium tantalate niobate. The modulator forms a basic tassel in the realization of miniaturized reconfigurable optical circuits embedded in a single solid-state three-dimensional chip.

On the Uniqueness of the Energy and Momenta of an Asymptotically Minkowskian Space-Time: The Case of the Schwarzschild Metric

Some theorems about the uniqueness of the energy of asymptotically Minkowskian spaces are recalled. The suitability of almost everywhere Gauss coordinates to define some kind of physical energy in these spaces is commented. Schwarzschild metric, when its source radius is larger than the Schwarzschild radius and in the case of a black hole, is considered. In both cases, by using a specific almost everywhere Gaussian coordinate system, a vanishing energy results. We explain why this result is not in contradiction with the quoted theorems. Finally we conclude that this metric is a particular case of what we have called elsewhere a creatable universe.

Tutkielman tehtävänä on tarkastella millaisena lasten seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä kertominen näyttäytyy kansainvälisissä tutkimuksissa. Tutkielmassa kuvataan miten hyväksikäytöstä kertomista on tutkittu kansainvälisesti sekä sitä kenelle lapset hyväksikäytöstä kertovat ja mitkä tekijät liittyvät kertomiseen tai kertomatta jättämiseen. Tutkimusaineistona on käytetty seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä kertomista käsitteleviä kansainvälisiä tutkimuksia. Aineisto kerättiin elektronisista tietokannoista systemaattisen kirjallisuuskatsauksen menetelmällä. Aineisto koostuu 22 tutkimuksesta, joista suurin osa on yhdysvaltalaisia tutkimuksia. Pentti Veroma (b. Weckman) was born in Turku, the old capital of Finland in 1903. He has become known to the next generations especially in his home town as a painter. In his youth, he practiced athletics in Paavo Nurmi’s own sport club Turun Urheiluliitto (Turku Sports Union). Later Veroma started to play football in the team of Turun Urheiluliitto. In the early 1920s, the language question was a significant factor in the football, also in Turku. Pentti Veroma was in 1922 one of the founders of Turun Palloseura (Turku Football Club). Analytical investigation of solitary waves in nonlinear Kerr medium

Abstract We study analytically the solution of nonlinear equation which result from the propagation of electromagnetic waves within a nonlinear Kerr medium. The medium is characterized by a dielectric constant which varies periodically and depends on the local field intensity. As a first step, we detail the resolution of the nonlinear equations with a quadratic nonlinearity. After that, we apply the slowly varying envelope approximation to obtain a Sine–Gordon equation. In this kind of nonlinearity, a gap solitons occurs. Moreover we verify that the solutions of the nonlinear equation for all frequencies within the gap are solitons solutions.
