Novel P53 mutations detected by FAMA in colorectal cancers
2006
Background The aim of the study was to identify p53 gene mutations by FAMA (fluorescence-assisted mismatch analysis) in colorectal cancers. Patients and methods Analytical scanning of the p53 gene (exons 5–9) was performed in colon cancer samples from 44 consecutive patients by FAMA. FAMA is a semiautomatic scanning approach based on the chemical cleavage of the mismatch in fluorescently labeled heteroduplex DNA, obtained from the combination of a normal and a mutated allele. FAMA has already shown optimal levels of diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity in detecting gene mutations (nucleotide substitutions, insertions/deletions) both at the germline and somatic level. The peculiar feature of …
Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Non-Pharmacological Treatment of HCC
2015
ABSTRACT: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still one of the most common tumors, ranking first among all cancers in relation to its frequency and mortality. Only very recently has there been a deceleration in the incidence and mortality of this neoplasia, which suggests that we may be close to the peak of the HCC epidemic, at least in the Western population. Risk factors are well known, and the hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses are the main etiologic factors. Indeed, liver cirrhosis (LC) of any etiology is the main cause of predisposition to the neoplastic degeneration of the liver; an underlying LC is present in most cases of HCC. For this reason, a surveillance program has been establis…
Valutazione produttive e qualitative di Timilie - Produttive and qualitative evaluation of timilie
2009
Abstract: Productive and qualitative results on four “timilia” population from different West Sicilian pedoclimat…
Comportamento bioagronomici di genotipi di triticale in due ambienti mediterranei. Bioagronomic behaviour of triticale in two Mediterranean Environme…
2009
Neuropsychologic phenotypes in familial hemiplegic migraine
2003
Familial hemiplegic migraine (FHM) is a rare autosomal dominant-type migraine with aura. Attacks are characterised by hemiparesis in addition to other aura and migraine symptoms. Few studies have examined the influence of FHM on cognitive functions. This study was aimed to investigate neuropsychological functions in 3 adolescent siblings suffering from FHM assessed six months after the last attack. No relevant deficits were found on a battery of multisectorial tests exploring cognitive functions. Sporadic FHM attack therefore seems not to affect cognition in these patients, at least far from the crises.
A further analysis of secretory structures of some taxa belonging to the genus Hypericum (Clusiaceae) in relation to the leaf vascular pattern
2014
This work extends knowledge about the distribution of secretory structures (black nodules, translucent glands, and type A and B secretory canals) to other species of the genus Hypericum L., as only H. perforatum L. appears to have been widely investigated. Moreover, the current study was extended to include leaf vascular patterns. In the species studied, a possible correlation between the presence of black nodules and a particular biological form, that of hemicryptophytes scapose perennials such as H. perfoliatum L., H. perforatum L., H. pubescens Boiss., H. tetrapterum Fr., and H. triquetrifolium Turra, was noted. These black nodules are not present in H. androsaemum L. and H. hircinum L.,…
Towards a quantitative comparison between global and local stability analysis
2017
A methodology is proposed here to estimate the stability characteristics of bluff-body wakes using local analysis under the assumption of weakly non-parallel flows. In this connection, a generalisation of the classic spatio-temporal stability analysis for fully three-dimensional flows is first described. Secondly, an additional higher-order correction term with respect to the common saddle-point global frequency estimation is included in the analysis. The proposed method is first validated for the case of the flow past a circular cylinder and then applied to two fully three-dimensional flows: the boundary layer flow over a wall-mounted hemispherical body and the wake flow past a fixed spher…
Presbyastasis: from diagnosis to management
2019
Currently, the elderly population (>65 years old) is in very growth. In fact, in Italy old age index (number of elderly per 100 persons under the age of 14 years) is estimated to be 157,7 and is projected to increase to 257,9 in the year 20651,2. The increase of the elderly population determines the increase of the age-dependent diseases including also impairment of the vestibular function, this problem is defined "presbiastasia". Patient suffering from this condition exhibit disturbances of static and dynamic postural control with far less frequent cases of relapsing objective rotatory vertigo. Occasionally, they also report a feeling of insecurity in new or unknown environments, increa…
PSYCHOLOGY AND PROFESSION IN SPAIN. THE EARLY YEARS OF THE SPANISH PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
2021
The creation of the Spanish Psychological Association (Spanish acronym, COP) was of enormous significance in the establishing of psychology in Spain, and in the creation of its identity. Since the publication of the 1980 Law of Creation [of the COP], this organization—aimed at regulating and representing the psychology profession—has not stopped growing, despite the serious internal and external issues it has had. The Spanish Psychological Association has gone through different stages over the past 40 years, which reflect and help us to characterize the short history of Spanish psychology, in particular the history of its delimitation with respect to other professions. This article presents…
Severe beak deformity in Melopsittacus undulatus caused by Knemidocoptes pilae
2014
An outbreak of knemidocoptic mange caused by Knemidocoptes pilae is described in caged Australian budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) in a public park in L´Eliana (Valencia, Spain). Five individuals (5 out of 70) displayed severe malformation of the beak, with the rhamphotheca, rhinotheca, and gnathotheca affected and a slight lateral deviation of the jawbone, which did not, however, impede feeding or grooming.
