The challenges of GxE research : A rejoinder
2017
New geochemical and combined zircon U–Pb and Lu–Hf isotopic data of orthogneisses in the northern Altyn Tagh, northern margin of the Tibetan plateau:…
2014
Abstract Dunhuang Block is previously considered to be an eastern part of the Tarim Craton, but now it is proposed to be the western extension of the Alxa Block of the NCC as a result of displacement along the Altyn Tagh fault. The oldest basement rocks of the Dunhuang Block, named Aketashitage Complex, were mainly exposed in the northern Altyn Tagh. Migmatites of the Aketashitage Complex are sodic and subalkaline in composition. Zircon U–Pb dating of the tonalitic and monzogranitic migmatites indicates that these rocks were produced by strong deformation of earlier formed tonalites with innumerous granitic veins. The tonalitic melanosome of the migmatites was generated approximately at 2.7…
The building blocks of continental crust: Evidence for a major change in the tectonic setting of continental growth at the end of the Archean
2013
Abstract Oceanic arcs are commonly cited as primary building blocks of continents, yet modern oceanic arcs are mostly subducted. Also, lithosphere buoyancy considerations show that oceanic arcs (even those with a felsic component) should readily subduct. With the exception of the Arabian–Nubian orogen, terranes in post-Archean accretionary orogens comprise 50%) produced in continental arcs. Felsic igneous rocks in oceanic arcs are depleted in incompatible elements compared to average continental crust and to felsic igneous rocks from continental arcs. They have lower Th/Yb, Nb/Yb, Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios, reflecting shallow mantle sources in which garnet did not exist in the restite during m…
Recycling and transport of continental material through the mantle wedge above subduction zones: A Caribbean example
2016
Abstract Estimates of global growth rates of continental crust critically depend upon knowledge of the rate at which crustal material is delivered back into the mantle at subduction zones and is then returned to the crust as a component of mantle-derived magma. Quantification of crustal recycling by subduction-related magmatism relies on indirect chemical and isotopic tracers and is hindered by the large range of potential melt sources (e.g., subducted oceanic crust and overlying chemical and clastic sediment, sub-arc lithospheric mantle, arc crust), whose composition may not be accurately known. There is also uncertainty about how crustal material is transferred from subducted lithosphere …
The long and winding road of enterprise architecture implementation in the Finnish public sector
2018
This thesis examines the implementation of enterprise architecture (EA) in the Finnish public sector. EA is a systematic approach for analysing, visualising, developing and governing the functions and structures of organisations. It describes how organisations businesses, information and systems function as a whole. Research and practice have shown the implementation of EA is challenging and slow to advance. Finland provides a prolific area for research since the use of EA is mandatory in public sector, which is rare amongst countries taking a whole-of-government EA approach. In order to research EA as a method for systemic change, a suitable theoretical framing was necessary. The context, …
Hajautettujen keinotekoisten neuroverkkojen soveltaminen langattomien lähiverkkojen tunkeutumisen havaitsemisjärjestelmiin
2011
Langattomien lähiverkkojen yleistyminen tarjoaa mahdollisille tunkeutujille uusia reittejä tietojärjestelmiin. Samaan aikaan tietojärjestelmien merkitys ihmisten ja yhteiskunnan kannalta kasvaa koko ajan. Tietojärjestelmiä turvaamaan tarvitaan tunkeutumisyritykset havaitsevia järjestelmiä. Tietotekniikan arkipäiväistyessä tietojärjestelmien käyttö koskettaa yhä useampia ihmisiä, joten järjestelmien helppokäyttöisyys korostuu entisestään. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin itseoppiviin hajautettuihin neuroverkkoihin perustuvan tunkeutumisen havaitsemisjärjestelmän toteutusmahdollisuuksia. Tutkimuksen tuloksena esitellään tällaisen järjestelmän arkkitehtuuri. Arkkitehtuurin perusteella toteutettiin e…
The impact of wildlife and environmental factors on hantavirus infection in the host and its translation into human risk
2023
Identifying factors that drive infection dynamics in reservoir host populations is essential in understanding human risk from wildlife-originated zoonoses. We studied zoonotic Puumala orthohantavirus (PUUV) in the host, the bank vole ( Myodes glareolus ), populations in relation to the host population, rodent and predator community and environment-related factors and whether these processes are translated into human infection incidence. We used 5-year rodent trapping and bank vole PUUV serology data collected from 30 sites located in 24 municipalities in Finland. We found that PUUV seroprevalence in the host was negatively associated with the abundance of red foxes, but this process did no…
Combining Social Service and Healthcare as the First Country in the World : Exploring the Impacts on Information Systems
2018
The Finnish government has decided to implement a reform in the social and healthcare system by combining the two in the future. There are several drivers for this change that have been identified. Large number of information systems that are not interoperable, challenges in data management and isolated service offering are the most significant ones. In the government’s strategy for the future the digitalisation will provide tools to solve these challenges. In this paper the landscape is outlined and the architecture choices are discussed. The enterprise architecture is applied for the largest county comprising of over 1900 social service and healthcare related information systems. The targ…
Exploring the Critical Success Factors in Social and Health Care Information Systems Project Procurement
2020
A welfare reform involving the mixing of social and health services is being introduced by the Finnish government. Several factors have been identified for this shift, the most relevant of which is that many information systems are not interoperable and data-related problems have been identified. Management and isolated offers of service. Digitalizing to solve these issues is part of the government’s policy. This paper outlines the change landscape and explores the architectural options of the proposed digitalisation process and crucial success factors. The Undertaking The design is applied to the largest county, which consists of over 1,900 information systems related to social support and…
