A Study into the Integration of ICT into a Business Management Course: Challenges and Achievements
2012
Nowadays, the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) play an increasingly important role in education. Indeed, ICT are considered as very useful pedagogic tools, and multimedia resources are constantly being created, updated and shared by university members worldwide. This paper deals with a case of study exploring the way in which the integration of ICT impacts learning in the context of a business management course at the Universitat de València (UV), in Spain.

2011
The system ISTechnology and lessons learned of its use in the business modeling and development of information systems are analyzed in the paper. The system consists of the meta-model and applications. The meta-model enables to define a platform independent business model of the organization. The lessons learned confirm that the development and maintenance cost of information systems can be significantly reduced by use of the ISTechnology.
ERP and Organizational Misfits: An ERP Customization Journey
2016
Abstract Enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects are complex and resource demanding. Some ERP projects fail due to what is called ‘misfit’ between the adopting organization's business requirements and the ERP's functionalities. Existing literature has studied how ERP systems match to different organizations and have argued that there always exists a gap between the business rules embedded in the system, and the practices and processes that exist in organizations. Thus, tailoring might be an important procedure during ERP implementations, in which the ERP customization takes place in order to ensure the compliance with the organizations’ critical business processes and requirements. Via …
Improving Communication in Risk Management of Health Information Technology Systems by means of Medical Text Simplification
2019
Health Information Technology Systems (HITS) are increasingly used to improve the quality of patient care while reducing costs. These systems have been developed in response to the changing models of care to an ongoing relationship between patient and care team, supported by the use of technology due to the increased instance of chronic disease. However, the use of HITS may increase the risk to patient safety and security. While standards can be used to address and manage these risks, significant communication problems exist between experts working in different departments. These departments operate in silos often leading to communication breakdowns. For example, risk management stakeholder…
Reference schemes for e-government strategies. The analysis of the case regional government of valencia
2004
E-Government seems to be a fashionable topic and many interests have appeared around it, in particular since 1999. ICT industries, consultancy companies, supranational organizations and even research community are developing important activities with a clear consequence, among others, of increasing the self-convincement level about the importance of the topics. We analyze the experience on e-Government of the Region of Valencia in Spain, its boundary conditions, it background, its main achievement and frustrations, the next steps, the future plans in its, already, long road toward the modernization of its activities using the Information and Communication Technologies. In order to clarify o…
Analysing Incentive Strategies to Promote Participation in Crowdsourcing Systems
2016
In this paper, we define two strategies for crowdsourcing systems to encourage users to participate at a cost that is close to the optimal cost for the system. In the scenario considered, the system has temporal constraints and potential participants have dynamic behaviors related to the expected rewards (i.e., users’ expected rewards in exchange of their contributions change over time). We propose and evaluate two types of strategies that promote participation of users through monetary rewards that can change as time passes in order to adapt them to the population dynamic behaviors.
Intellectual Structure of the Belt and Road Initiative Research: A Scientometric Analysis and Suggestions for a Future Research Agenda
2020
China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has attracted increasing attention worldwide since its inception in 2013. Although the research is fast increasing in terms of publications, there is a lack of knowledge about the intellectual structure, research trends, and appropriate theories underpinning. Using bibliometric data from 1583 articles from 2013 to 2019 in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, we used bibliometric techniques and scientometric analyses to identify and analyze the intellectual structure, hotspots, and emerging trends in this field. We identified 18 clusters that we categorized into three groups for thematic discussion. Research gaps and future research directions were …
Educating reflective Enterprise Systems practitioners: a design research study of the iterative building of a teaching framework
2013
This research paper reports on the iterative design of a teaching framework developed for teaching Enterprise Systems ES classes for Information Systems IS graduates. These systems embed technical complexity and create organizational challenges when implemented in organizations. Therefore, teaching good ES classes is pedagogically challenging for faculty, and ES curricula are difficult for students. We have gradually designed and rebuilt curricula and teaching frameworks over 8years. This has also resulted in a set of eight design principles. We report from our design and evaluation process and present our final artefact, the teaching framework. The aim is to educate reflective practitioner…
