Agility and system documentation in large-scale enterprise system projects: a knowledge management perspective

Abstract The growth of the agile approach usage comes with a deemphasis on formal documentation (explicit knowledge) and an increased reliance on personal interactions (tacit knowledge) for knowledge transfer. However, the sharing of tacit knowledge poses challenges. The agile approach is prone to knowledge hoarding, as well as knowledge loss from employee turnover and reassignment during periods of significant organizational changes. The purpose of this paper is to order and connect different perspectives on the creation and management of knowledge. Several proposals for the classification of the main approaches to knowledge management are considered and their connections and differences discussed. Three main groups emerge: measuring knowledge, managing knowledge (either with greater emphasis on the human factor or on information technologies) and creating knowledge. Why and how to use enterprise social media platforms: The employee’s perspective

Abstract Literature supports the relevance of knowledge sharing in a company. Considering that social media plays an important role in this process, this paper analyzes the antecedents and consequences of the use of enterprise social media platforms according to the employee's perception. Based on the Motivation-Opportunity-Ability framework and using two different methodologies (Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling and fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis), we find that three different combinations of motivation, opportunity and ability factors, combined in pairs, promote the use of enterprise social media platforms, leading to knowledge creation and task performance. Exploring Collective Action Dynamics in Online Communities from a Critical Realist Perspective

Scholars have been increasingly studying Online Communities (OCs) for a variety of purposes, focusing on issues like individual motivation, knowledge sharing, and governance structure. Few studies focused on the entanglement among technology, people, and organizational structures that support working dynamics within OCs. This paper addresses this issue by exploring causal mechanisms sustaining the collective actions of OCs through a retroduction process.
