Pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastelen alkoholin korvikeaineisiin kuolleita Suomessa vuosien 1914 ja 1921 välillä. Alkoholin korvikkeina käytettiin alkoholipitoisia aineita, jotka olivat tarkoitettu hyötykäyttöön ja pyritty tekemään juomakelvottomiksi. Korvikekuolemia tutkin käyttäen lääkintöhallitukselle lähetettyjen ruumiinavausraporttien specis facti -osion tietojen pohjalta, ja ilmiöstä lehdistössä julkaistuja uutisia ja keskusteluja käyttäen. Aineistoa tutkin lähiluvun ja diskurssianalyysin menetelmiä käyttäen. Alkoholin saatavuus oli tiukasti rajoitettu Suomessa tiukasti ennen vuotta 1914, suuressa osassa Suomea sen myyntiä ei sallittu.
