Monoterpenes such as geraniol, linalool, and -terpineol present in grapes determine the varietal flavor properties of young quality wines made from Muscat varieties (for reviews, see references 19 and 21). Geraniol and linalool are considered to be the most important of the monoterpene alcohols, as they are present in greater concentrations and have lower flavor thresholds than other major wine monoterpenes. In particular, linalool is thought to be responsible for the grapelike aroma of wines produced from the Muscat variety. A large proportion of

Leon Battista Alberti archeologo

2007

New documents partly re-emerge the ancient splendour of the abbey of Santa Maria di Altofonte, founded by Frederick III and ruled since the 15th century by commendatory abbots belonging to noble families, such as Ascanio Colonna, Scipione Borghese and Francesco Maria Medi…

Musical Competition Culture in 19th Century Italy. The Concorso Basevi (Florence) and the Circolo Bonamici (Naples)

2021

Musical competitions played an important function in Italian musical culture of the 19th century. Florence and Naples offer two interesting examples in this field. In the Tuscan city, Abramo Basevi (1818-1885) established an annual composition competition specially dedicated to chamber music, which reached great popularity throughout Europe; the “Concorso Basevi” took place six times starting from 1861. In Naples Ferdinando Bonamici (1827-1905) showed more varied interests and organized not only composition but also performance competitions between 1863 and 1865. Both experiences, based on individual or small group initiatives, were undoubtedly fragile, but they contributed significantly to…

Rheological modifiers based on supramolecular block copolymers: From weak associations to interconnected micelles

2019

Abstract The rheological spectra of poly(n-butyl acrylate) in the presence of a series of P(nBA-b-HEMA) rheology modifiers show a two-step relaxation process originating from the PnBA matrix and the self-assemblies. The HEMA segments are further grafted with strong, hydrogen bonding UPy groups, which both magnifies and slows down the relaxation of the assemblies. The extents of associations are enlightened by studying thermal transitions in DSC, morphological developments by SAXS, and description of rheological properties using a tube-based model. It is revealed that a weak association tendency, due to long hydrophobic blocks, leads to the formation of double-linear or star assemblies, whil…

Atteone in contesto.

2020

The study considers some representations of the myth of Actaeon in Sicily, that draw a clear geography of the mythic theme in the island, in close connection with water and female transition rites. In particular, it focuses on some louteria from Selinus and Agrigento (from the Sanctuary of chthonic deities), that report this subject, and a lekanis rim from Himera, coming from a supposed sacred area within the residential area, where rites of passage were performed. The only other evidence of the theme in the island consists in a fragment of Attic krater from a Geloan tomb, apart from the well known metope of Selinus. The recontextualization of the evidence allows us to understand better the…
