Toll-like receptor-2 is essential in murine defenses against Candida albicans infections

In this work, we studied the role of toll-like receptor-2 (TLR2) in murine defenses against Candida albicans. TLR2-deficient mice experimentally infected intraperitoneally (i.p.) or intravenously (i.v.) in vivo had very significant impaired survival compared with that of control mice. In vitro production of TNF-alpha and macrophage inhibitory protein-2 (MIP-2) by macrophages from TLR2-/- mice in response to yeasts and hyphae of C. albicans were significantly lower (80% and 40%, respectively; P <0.05) than production by macrophages from wild-type mice. Several studies suggest a link between circadian rhythm disturbances and tumorigenesis. However, the association between circadian clock genes and prognosis in breast cancer has not been systematically studied. Therefore, we examined the expression of 17 clock components in tumors from 766 node-negative breast cancer patients that were untreated in both neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings. AbstractNuclear domains (ND) 10 are associated with proteins implicated in transcriptional regulation, growth suppression, and apoptosis. We now show that the minor capsid protein L2 of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 33 induces a reorganization of ND10-associated proteins. Whereas the promyelocytic leukemia protein, the major structural component of ND10, was unaffected by L2, Sp100 was released from ND10 upon L2 expression. The total cellular amount of Sp100, but not of Sp100 mRNA, decreased significantly, suggesting degradation of Sp100. Convex functions on Carnot Groups

We consider the definition and regularity properties of convex functions in Carnot groups. We show that various notions of convexity in the subelliptic setting that have appeared in the literature are equivalent. Our point of view is based on thinking of convex functions as subsolutions of homogeneous elliptic equations.
