Master´s thesis in Religion, Philosophy and Society A central notion to Rousseau’s The Social Contract is “the general will”. This thesis is a hermeneutical inquiry into that notion. The thesis first sets the hermeneutical horizons of quasi-realismas the metaphysical framework and non-cognitivism as a motivation theory. The inquiry then begins by Rousseau’s thought experiment on the state of nature, starting with metaphysics, which is “the coming into being” of the general will. Then it transitions into moral psychology in the horizon of non-cognitivism. This is a transition from the philosophy of principles toempirical philosophy. Master's thesis in Religion (REL500) This master thesis explores Søren Kierkegaard’s critique of the teleological argument, as it is presented in Philosophiske Smuler (1844/2014). The main purpose of the thesis revolves around exploring the question of whether this critique can contribute to illuminate and reveal important weaknesses and potential fallacies found in modern versions of teleological arguments. By looking at William Paleys teleological argument and Robin Collins’ fine-tuning argument,both historical and modern versions of the teleological argument are being considered and accounted for. Masteroppgave religion REL500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 This dissertation aims to explore the thoughts and attitudes of nine Palestinian Muslims on religious legitimated nonviolence and violence. The participants work with or as a part of peace-organizations or have connections to such organizations otherwise. Therefore, one can assume that they already have thought about the matter and that they draw in the direction of nonviolence. The results show that these people, whose daily life is affected by an active conflict where Islam is viewed as one of the main reasons for violence, still work for peace and nonviolence, and also uses Islam actively in their argumentation. Masteroppgave religion REL500 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Denne oppgaven handler om hvorvidt og hvorfor unge, konservative kristne mennesker holder hviledagen hellig. Elleve informanter er intervjuet og jeg har i oppgaven drøftet disse svarene. Resultatene viser at unge, konservative kristne i dag har et bevisst forhold til en hviledag i uken, og overholder denne. Av hva som regnes som legitimt å gjøre på hviledagen viser tendensen at det er en oppmykning fra dagens unge voksne generasjon til deres foreldres generasjon. Eksempelvis, tillot mine informanter seg å gjøre husarbeid dersom dette var nødvendig, noe de oppgav foreldrene sine ikke ville gjort. En mulig forklaring kan være en økend…

Masteroppgave religion REL500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 This master thesis involves what justifications and reflections young Muslim girls have for using the hijab or not. Through depth-interviews of 15 youths, aged between 13 and 19 at different schools in two regions in Norway who did and did not wear the hijab, this thesis closely examines their thoughts regarding the Islamic headscarf. Through my work with responses from the informants, a pattern centering round whether they viewed wearing the hijab as a religious injunction or as a free choice rapidly emerged.
