GreekLex 2: A comprehensive lexical database with part-of-speech, syllabic, phonological, and stress information
2017
Databases containing lexical properties on any given orthography are crucial for psycholinguistic research. In the last ten years, a number of lexical databases have been developed for Greek. However, these lack important part-of-speech information. Furthermore, the need for alternative procedures for calculating syllabic measurements and stress information, as well as combination of several metrics to investigate linguistic properties of the Greek language are highlighted. To address these issues, we present a new extensive lexical database of Modern Greek (GreekLex 2) with part-of-speech information for each word and accurate syllabification and orthographic information predictive of stre…
Studi di fonetica greca
2018
A User-Balanced System for IP Telephony in WLANs
2008
Wireless IP telephony is becoming very popular between the users of large wireless local area networks (WLANs). This increment has been mainly caused because it allows cost savings. Although, large WLANs use to provide high availability and redundancy, WLANs lack on the available throughput when there are many IP telephony users. In this paper we present a system that reallocates IP telephony devices when the system detects that an AP is overloaded. The algorithm and the frames used for our proposal are described. Measurements taken show how the bandwidth consumed is transferred from an access point to another when our proposal is running. Finally, we show the time needed to re-associate re…
The Definition of Syllable in Aristotle’s Poetics
2015
This paper deals with the theory of syllable in Aristotl's Poetics. As known, the main difficult of this text are the strange examples of syllables 'syllable is gr without a as well as with a, as in gra'. My proposal is to read this definition in strict connetion with the definition of stoichion in the same text, ad in context of the whole Corpus aristotelicum. In the definiton of stoicheion, wich introduce the faumous classification of linguistic sounds in 'vowels' (phoneenta) 'non-vowels' (aphona) and 'semivowels' (hemiphona) is difficult to understnad what 'hemiphona' are, and why Aristotle call them with this name, if we admit that hemiphona are countinous sounds as 's' or 'r'. that are…
Beyond GDP: an analysis of the socio-economic diversity of European regions
2019
International audience; This paper aims to analyze the socioeconomic diversity of the European Union (EU-28) regions from a dynamic perspective. For that purpose, we combine a series of exploratory space-time analysis approaches to multiple Factor Analysis (MFA) applied to a large range of indicators collected at the NUTS-2 level for the period 2000–2015 for the EU-28. First, we find that the first factor of MFA, interpreted as economic development (ECO-DEV), is spatially clustered and that a moderate convergence process is at work between European regions from 2000 to 2015. Second, when comparing these results with those obtained for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, we show that th…

Digitalisation of municipal healthcare collaboration with volunteers: a case study applying normalization process theory
2021
Abstract Background Increasing use of volunteers in healthcare requires structured collaboration between healthcare services and volunteers. The aim of this research was to explore critical issues and strategies in the implementation process of a digital solution for collaboration with and coordination of volunteers in municipal healthcare services. Methods Qualitative data collection was used to study implementation of a digital system for collaboration with volunteers in three Norwegian municipalities. Three rounds of interviews were conducted with healthcare employees from a volunteer centre and from municipality healthcare units in three municipalities: before implementation, and 6 and …
Combination of Searches for Invisible Higgs Boson Decays with the ATLAS Experiment
2019
Dark matter particles, if sufficiently light, may be produced in decays of the Higgs boson. This Letter presents a statistical combination of searches for H → invisible decays where H is produced according to the standard model via vector boson fusion, Z(ℓℓ)H, and W/Z(had)H, all performed with the ATLAS detector using 36.1 fb⁻¹ of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV at the LHC. In combination with the results at √s = 7 and 8 TeV, an exclusion limit on the H → invisible branching ratio of 0.26(0.17-0.05+0.07) at 95% confidence level is observed (expected).
School aspirations, cognitive skills and wage expectations of French Undergraduates
2013
en ligne : http://cemapre.iseg.utl.pt/educonf/2e3/files/submissions_to_web/Bonnard%20Claire_%20Giret%20Jean-Francois_Lambert-Le%20Mener%20Marielle.pdf; This paper aims to study the earnings expectations of first-year students at a French university and to compare them with the observed earnings of young people in the labour market for that same year. Our findings highlight the importance of the environment in which students make their choices about education. Expected earnings are proportionally higher when their parents seem to be involved in the careers guidance, even controlling for the effect of parental socio-economic status. The positive opinion of parents about the orientation or the…
Deskilling and decline in skill premium during the age of sail : Swedish and Finnish seamen, 1751–1913
2016
The study examines the evolution of skill premium and share at industry level in shipping during the age of sail. We argue that the period from the 1750s to the 1910s represented deskilling for the seamen working in sailing ships. The growth of international trade and shipping during the first era of globalization increased the overall demand for sailors but decreased the relative demand for skilled labor in favor of less skilled ones. This deskilling was associated with a decline in wage inequality, as the premium for high skilled seamen fell relative to mean wages in the shipping industry. The decline in skill premium may have facilitated the growth of trade and shipping, as the relative …
