Facilitation of Insulin Effects by Ranolazine in Astrocytes in Primary Culture

2022

Ranolazine (Rn) is a drug used to treat persistent chronic coronary ischemia. It has also been shown to have therapeutic benefits on the central nervous system and an anti-diabetic effect by lowering blood glucose levels and however, no effects of Rn on cellular sensitivity to insulin (Ins) have been demonstrated yet. The present study aimed to investigate the permissive effects of Rn on the actions of Ins in astrocytes in primary culture. Ins at 10-8 M, Rn (10-6 M) and Ins+Rn (10-8 M and 10−6 M respectively) were added to astrocytes during 24 h. In comparison to control cells, Rn and/or Ins caused modifications in cell viability and proliferation. p-AKT, p-ERK, p-eNOS, Mn-SOD, COX-2, and t…

Flemón parafaríngeo por cuerpo extraño metálico

1998

The complex formation of tetracyclohexylammonium C1-resorcinarene with various guests - an electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron re…

2008

The complex formation of a tetraammonium C1-resorcinarene (R+4HCl) was studied using electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (ESI-FTICR) mass spectrometry. Although R+4HCl easily loses its counter ions in the ESI process, a neutral self-assembled structure with an intramolecular circular hydrogen-bonded 16-membered -N(+)-H ... X(-) ... H-N(+)- array with ammonium ion as the charge-giving species was observed in the gas phase. In addition to chloride, several other counter ions were also studied. The size and basicity of the counter ion as well as the size of the charge-giving cation strongly affected the gas-phase stability of the self-assembled system. H/D exchang…

Abstract PO-46: Mechanisms of resistance to the PI3K inhibitor copanlisib in marginal zone lymphoma

2020

Abstract Background: PI3Kδ is expressed in B cells and has a central role in the B-cell receptor signaling. Copanlisib is a highly selective PI3Kδ and PI3Kα inhibitor, and it is currently under clinical development in indolent lymphomas including marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Copanlisib is Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma. Nevertheless, a subset of patients can eventually relapse due to acquired resistance. A better understanding of resistance mechanisms could help to design improved therapies; hence, we generated MZL cell lines resistant to copanlisib. Materials and Methods: Cells were kept on copanlis…

From cacti to carnivores: Improved phylotranscriptomic sampling and hierarchical homology inference provide further insight into the evolution of Car…

2017

Premise of the study The Caryophyllales contain ~12,500 species and are known for their cosmopolitan distribution, convergence of trait evolution, and extreme adaptations. Some relationships within the Caryophyllales, like those of many large plant clades, remain unclear, and phylogenetic studies often recover alternative hypotheses. We explore the utility of broad and dense transcriptome sampling across the order for resolving evolutionary relationships in Caryophyllales. Methods We generated 84 transcriptomes and combined these with 224 publicly available transcriptomes to perform a phylogenomic analysis of Caryophyllales. To overcome the computational challenge of ortholog detection in s…

Short time guided bone regeneration using beta-tricalcium phosphate with and without fibronectin. An experimental study in rats

2020

Background  The aim of this histomorphometric study was to assess the bone regeneration potential of beta-tricalcium phosphate with fibronectin (β-TCP-Fn) in critical-sized defects (CSDs) in rats calvarial, to know whether Fn improves the new bone formation in a short time scope. Material and Methods  CSDs were created in 30 Sprague Dawley rats, and divided into four groups (2 or 6 weeks of healing) and type of filling (β-TCP-Fn, β-TCP, empty control). Variables studied were augmented area (AA), gained tissue (GT), mineralized/non mineralized bone matrix (MBM/NMT) and bone substitute (BS). Results 60 samples at 2 and six weeks were evaluated. AA was higher for treatment groups comparing to …

EcFLO, a FLORICAULA-like gene from Eschscholzia californica is expressed during organogenesis at the vegetative shoot apex.

2003

FLORICAULA/ LEAFY-like genes were initially characterized as flower meristem identity genes. In a range of angiosperms, expression occurs also in vegetative shoot apices and developing leaves, and in some species with dissected leaves expression is perpetuated during organogenesis at the leaf marginal blastozone. The evolution of these expression patterns and associated functions is not well understood. We have isolated and characterized a FLORICAULA-like gene from California Poppy, Eschscholzia californica Cham. (Papaveraceae), a species belonging to the basal eudicot clade Ranunculales. EcFLO encodes a putative 416-amino-acid protein with highest similarity to homologous genes from Trocho…

EURECCA colorectal: multidisciplinary mission statement on better care for patients with colon and rectal cancer in Europe

2013

Contains fulltext : 125368.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Care for patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in the last twenty years however still considerable variation exists in cancer management and outcome between European countries. Therefore, EURECCA, which is the acronym of European Registration of cancer care, is aiming at defining core treatment strategies and developing a European audit structure in order to improve the quality of care for all patients with colon and rectal cancer. In December 2012 the first multidisciplinary consensus conference about colon and rectum was held looking for multidisciplinary consensus. The expert panel consisted of…
