An experimental study on relationship between LED lamp characteristics and non image-forming
2017
The general aim of the experimental study, presented in this paper, was that to investigate the relationship between the characteristics of five different types of LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps, which are nowadays those allowing the highest energy consumption reduction, and the humans non image-forming (NIF) reactions.
Multicolour LEDs in educational demonstrations of physics and optometry
2014
LED light sources are used to design experimental setup for university courses teaching human color vision. The setup allows to demonstrate various vision characteristics and to apply for student practical exercises to study eye spectral sensitivity in different spectral range using heterochromatic flicker photometry. Technique can be used in laboratory works for students to acquire knowledge in visual perception, basics of electronics and measuring, or it can be applied as fully computer control experiment. Besides studies of the eye spectral sensitivity students can practice in trichromatic color matching and other visual perception tasks
Shape Distortion and Thickness Distribution during SPIF Processes: Expermental and Numerical Analysis
2011
Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) is a quite new sheet forming process which offers the possibility to deform complex parts without dedicated dies using only a single point tool and a standard 3-axis CNC machine. The process mechanics enables strains much higher than traditional sheet forming processes, but particular attention must be given to the final part geometrical accuracy. In this paper the capabilities of a dedicated explicit numerical model are quantitatively analyzed on pyramid-shaped parts. In particular a comparison between experimental and numerical results is reported. Three different shapes at the varying of the stamping angle were considered and the final shape was ac…
Friction stir welding of tailored joints for industrial applications
2009
Friction stir welding (FSW) is an energy efficient and environmentally "friendly" (no fumes, noise, or sparks) welding process, during which the workpieces are welded together in a solid-state joining process at a temperature below the melting point of the workpiece material under a combination of extruding and forging. Since its invention in 1991 by TWI, such process has been reaching a continuously increasing popularity among aerospace, automotive and shipbuilding industries due its capability to weld unweldable or difficult-to-weld light alloys in different joint morphologies. In this paper a wide experimental campaign is carried out in order to obtain T and lap joints characterized by d…

Abstract The enantiomeric and diastereomeric profiling of chiral pharmaceuticals (ephedrine, norephedrine, atenolol and venlafaxine) and illicit drugs (amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), 3,4-methylenedioxy- N -methylamphetamine (MDMA) and 3,4-methylenedioxy- N -ethylamphetamine (MDEA)) was undertaken over a period of fourteen consecutive days in three wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the city of Valencia, Spain. Degradation efficiency of WWTPs was found to be compound and enantiomer dependent. Selective enantiomer enrichment was observed for several target analytes. Amphetamine and MDMA were enriched with R (−)-enantiomers. 1 S ,2 S (+)-pseudoephedrine …
Eudontomyzon danfordi (Regan, 1911) Species Populations Ecological Status in Maramureş Mountains Nature Park (Romania)
2015
Abstract The Eudontomyzon danfordi characteristic habitats state of Maramureş Mountains Nature Park varies greatly, 19.05% are in excellent conservation status, 47.62% are in good/average status and 33.33% are in a partially degraded condition. The identified human impact categories which induced the decreasing of Eudontomyzon danfordi species habitat state in the studied area are: poaching, minor riverbeds morphodynamic changings, liquid and solid natural flow disruption, destruction of riparian trees and bush vegetation, habitat fragmentation-fish populations isolation, and organic/mining pollution activities.
FSW of Lap and T-Joints
2010
Even if in the last years several researches have studied the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process, it should be observed that most of these studies are concerned with the butt joint and just a few of them extend to more complex geometries. It is worthy to notice that the acquired knowledge on FSW process of butt joints is not immediately extendable to lap and T-joints. The first observation is that in butt joints the surface to be welded is vertical, while in lap and T-joints it is horizontal and placed at the bottom of the top blank to be welded; in this way a major vertical component of the material flow is required to obtain sound joints. In the FSW of lap-joints four different geometric…
Evaluation of interlaminar delaminations in titanium-graphite fibre metal laminates by infrared NDT techniques
2018
Abstract Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs) describe a number of aerospace-grade layered structural materials where thin metal alloy foils are interleaved with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) plies. Such material hybridisation at the layer meso-scale poses a challenge for non-destructive testing (NDT). On the other hand, the need for NDT inspection of FMLs arises due to the potential development of interlayers disbonds, both during fabrication or in-service. This work describes the successful implementation of two Infrared-NDT approaches to evaluate a defected FML panel made of Titanium/Graphite (Ti-Gr). One technique is based on the modulation of the deployed heat from a low-cost halogen lamp, to…

Behavioural strategy of common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in response to different kinds of boats in the waters of Lampedusa Island (It…
2013
Owing to the increase of boat-traffic in the ocean many studies have been conducted to determine the response of bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) to this kind of disturbance. This species is affected by boats in various ways and the response depends on the behavioural state of the dolphin but also on the kind of vessel. This study aimed to determine the effect of motorboats and trawlers on dolphins' presence, permanence in the area and whistle parameters in Lampedusa waters (Italy). Sampling was carried out between May and December 2006 and between July and September 2009, using experimental passive acoustic monitoring systems (PAM); a total of 300 h of recordings and 3000 whistles w…
