Obstetric and Neonatal Outcome of Pregnancies Fathered by Males on Immunosuppression After Solid Organ Transplantation
2015
Immunosuppressive drugs may influence spermatogenesis, but little is known about outcome of pregnancies fathered by transplanted males. We estimated risk of adverse outcomes in pregnancies (with data after the first trimester) fathered by males that had undergone organ transplantation and were treated with immunosuppression. A population-based study, linking data from the Norwegian transplant registry and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway during 1967-2009 was designed. All Norwegian men undergoing solid organ transplantation were included. Odds ratios for major malformations, preeclampsia, preterm delivery (<37 weeks) and small-for-gestational-age were obtained using logistic regression.…
Generation of reporter plasmids containing defined base modifications in the DNA strand of choice
2012
Physiological effects of DNA bases other than A, G, C, and T as well as ways of removal of such bases from genomes are studied intensely. Methods for targeted insertion of modified bases into DNA, therefore, are highly demanded in the fields of DNA repair and epigenetics. This article describes efficient procedures for incorporation of modified DNA bases into a plasmid-borne enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) gene. The procedure exploits excision of a stretch of 18 nt from either the transcribed or nontranscribed DNA strand with the help of the sequence-specific nicking endonucleases Nb.Bpu10I and Nt.Bpu10I. The excised single-stranded oligonucleotide is then swapped for a synthetic …
Hypothyroidism and pregnancy. Situation in Latvia
2015
The thyroid gland is the first of the body's endocrine glands to develop, on approximately the 24 th day or 3-4 weeks of gestation, but at around 10-12 weeks the thyroid begins to function on its own. Thyroid hormones are involved in regulation of vital body function. In general normal development, growth and reproduction cannot occur without them. The normal function of thyroid gland is predictor to normal pregnancy outcome and foetus development. It is important to know how many women have hypothyroidism and what kind of treatment they receive. Author selected and made retrospective analysis of women with hypothyroidism maternity cases from 2010 to 2011 year. Data compared to the control …

Heat-induced action potential discharges in nociceptive primary sensory neurons of rats.
2009
Although several transducer molecules for noxious stimuli have been identified, little is known about the transformation of the resulting generator currents into action potentials (APs). Therefore we investigated the transformation process for stepped noxious heat stimuli (42-47 degrees C, 3-s duration) into membrane potential changes and subsequent AP discharges using the somata of acutely dissociated small dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons (diameteror=32.5 microm) of adult rats as a model for their own peripheral terminals. Three types of heat-induced membrane potential changes were differentiated: type 1, heat-induced AP discharges (approximately 37% of the neurons); type 2, heat-induce…
Second trimester uterine arteries pulsatility index is a function of placental pathology and provides insights on stillbirth aetiology: A multicenter…
2022
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between maternal vascular malperfusions (MVM) and second trimester uterine arteries pulsatility index (UtA-PI) in cases of stillbirth (SB), compared to live-birth (LB) matched controls. Methods: This was a multicentre, observational, matched case-control study performed at five referral maternity centres over a 4-year period including SB and LB control pregnancies at high-risk for preeclampsia (PE) and/or fetal growth restriction (FGR), matched and stratified for UtA-PI MoM quartiles values of the SB cases. Logistic regression was used to assess the rates of each MVM finding, within each increasing MoM quartile subcate…
Revision of the Eduardo Reyes Prósper’s herbarium and typification of three species of charophytes (<em>Charophyceae : Characeae</em>) pr…
2019
A study of the charophytes collected by Eduardo Reyes Prósper in the period 1904–1906 and kept in the herbarium of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (MA-ALGAE) is carried out. Reyes Prósper’s herbarium consists of 112 sheets, which had not been revised until now, among which are the type materials of Lamprothamnus aragonensis Reyes y Prosper, Lamprothamnus toletanus Reyes y Prosper and Tolypella giennensis Reyes y Prosper, of which their lectotypes are here designated.

Evolution of tissue-specific keratins as deduced from novel cDNA sequences of the lungfish Protopterus aethiopicus.
2005
Lungfishes are possibly the closest extant relatives of the land vertebrates (tetrapods). We report here the cDNA and predicted amino acid sequences of 13 different keratins (ten type I and three type II) of the lungfish Protopterus aethiopicus. These keratins include the orthologs of human K8 and K18. The lungfish keratins were also identified in tissue extracts using two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, keratin blot binding assays and immunoblotting. The identified keratin spots were analyzed by peptide mass fingerprinting which assigned seven sequences (inclusively Protopterus K8 and K18) to their respective protein spot. The peptide mass fingerprints also revealed the fac…
