This chapter provides information on results of international achievement surveys and their use in monitoring educational outcomes in Finland. The educational monitoring system in Finland differs from that of many other countries. So far, little attention has been paid to its lack of standardised measurements and official control. Furthermore, Finnish education policies are strongly driven not by the aim to reach high rankings in international assessments but rather by the emphasis on quality and equity of education. Guano-related phosphate-rich minerals in European caves

International audience; Guano is a typical deposit found in caves derived from the excretions of bats and in minor cases of birds. These organic deposits decompose and form a series of acid fluids and gases that can interact with the minerals, sediments, and rocks present in the cave. Over sixty phosphates are known and described from caves, but guano decay also often leads to the formation of nitrates and sulfates. In this study twenty-two European caves were investigated for their guano-related secondary minerals. Using various analytical techniques, seventeen phosphates, along with one sulfate (gypsum), were recognized as secondary products of guano decay. Among those minerals, some are …
Examining how global citizenship education is prefigured in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence

This study uses the Aristotelian notion of phronesis as a critical lens for examining how global citizenship education is prefigured in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. Based on a content analysis of key curriculum documentation, the findings outline the way in which techne and episteme with their associated ways of knowing and acting dominate the curriculum. Nevertheless, the hints of phronesis indicate the potential for developing a more critical form of global citizenship education that prefigures praxis that wisely pursues that which is good for humankind and individual flourishing. The aim of this study was the examination of relationships between children’s perceptions of motivational climate, goal orientation, and their engagement in light- to vigorous-intensity physical activity. The sample comprised 585 school children at age of 11 to 16-year-old from three small cities located in Northeast-Finland. The cross-sectional data was collected using online questionnaires in April 2014. The occurrence of Ricciocarpos natans (L.) Corda in Silesia (SW Poland) is discussed in its geographical and phytosociological aspects. The paper lists localities of this species and indicates its occurrence in plant communities, with special attention to Ricciocarpetum natantis an association rare and threatened in Poland. Ricciocarpos natans is a fairly common species in Silesia, known from 70 stations. Patches of Ricciocarpetum natantis are documented from 11 localities.

Liga Niepodległości Polski utworzona w 1944 r. stała się polityczną reprezentacją piłsudczyków na emigracji. Przywódcą ruchu został znany dyplomata Juliusz Łukasiewicz. W 1950 r. na stanowisku prezesa zastąpił go Michał Grażyński, były wieloletni wojewoda śląski. Siedzibą władz naczelnych LNP był Londyn, gdzie piłsudczycy wydawali powielany biuletyn „Listy z Londynu”, a następnie czasopismo „Za Wolność i Niepodległość”.
