The aim of the research was to find the justifications for children’s participation used by children and workers at World Vision Finland’s programs in Sri Lanka, the childhood images of the justificationsand thefactors influencing children’s attendance to children’s clubs. Ten children and ten adults were interviewed in 2015. From the data,14 justifications for participation were found through phenomenographic data analysis. This thesis addresses the following research questions: 1) what are the intensities of physical activities that are typically considered to develop motor competence in children, 2) how is accelerometer-derived physical activity (PA) associated with motor competence (MC), 3) what is the effect of family-based PA counseling on children’s PA and MC, and 4) does initial parental support of a child’s PA moderate the counseling effect on the child’s PA? A fast hierarchical dual boundary element method for three-dimensional elastodynamic crack problems

In this work a fast solver for large-scale three-dimensional elastodynamic crack problems is presented, implemented, and tested. The dual boundary element method in the Laplace transform domain is used for the accurate dynamic analysis of cracked bodies. The fast solution procedure is based on the use of hierarchical matrices for the representation of the collocation matrix for each computed value of the Laplace parameter. An ACA (adaptive cross approximation) algorithm is used for the population of the low rank blocks and its performance at varying Laplace parameters is investigated. Non-abusing mothers’ agency after disclosure of the child’s extra-familial sexual abuse

This qualitative study analysed the agency of eight non-abusing mothers in the Turkish Cypriot Community after disclosure that their child had been sexually abused by someone outside the family. The aim was to discover how, after disclosure, such mothers act to protect their children in the contexts of their family and community. The data were gathered via semi-structured in-depth interviews and analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). AbstractUtilizing such concepts as “colonial complicity” and “colonialism without colonies”, this chapter examines the case of Finns and Finland as a nation that was once oppressed but also itself complicit in colonialism. Acculturation Orientations among Russian Youth in Finland

Despite the fact that much academic attention has been directed to the acculturation of immigrants in Finland, the need to more fully understand how immigrants cope with acculturation is timely. Since the Russian-speaking immigrants represent the biggest immigrant group in Finland, this chapter explores the acculturation orientations among Russian immigrant youth approached from the angle of the festive culture. The findings are based on the data of ethnographic observation and qualitative interviews (n 16) conducted in the central part of Finland.
