Neuromuscular Training Warm-up Prevents Acute Noncontact Lower Extremity Injuries in Children’s Soccer : A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

2021

Background: Prevention of sports injuries is essential in youth, as injuries are associated with less future physical activity and thus greater all-cause morbidity. Purpose: To investigate whether a neuromuscular training warm-up operated by team coaches is effective in preventing acute lower extremity (LE) injuries in competitive U11-U14 soccer players. Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1. Methods: Twenty top-level U11 to U14 soccer clubs in Finland were randomized into intervention and control groups and assessed for 20 weeks. Participants included 1403 players (280 female, 1123 male; age range, 9-14 years): 673 players (44 teams) in the intervention group and …

Propeller flap for treatment of a poststernotomy sternal fistula: A case report.

2014

Summary The treatment of post-operative deep sternal wound infections is a real challenge for surgeons. Conservative treatment with debridement and vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) therapy is not always successful. In the most severe and chronic cases, a surgical debridement and reconstruction of the defect is mandatory. In this report, the authors present a case of a 61-year-old female patient with a chronic cutaneous fistula in the sternal region following a median sternotomy after coronary artery bypass. The patient had already undergone treatment with antibiotics, drainage of an abscess and local debridement, but the infection continued to relapse periodically. The authors decided to treat…

Uveítis anterior aguda hipertensiva granulomatosa bilateral como efecto adverso a brimonidina tópica

2018

Abstract Clinical case The case concerns an 81-year-old woman on treatment with a topical fixed combination of timolol and brimonidine who was diagnosed in the Emergency Department with acute anterior granulomatous hypertensive uveitis. The patient responded favorably to the withdrawal of the eye drops without showing any subsequent relapse. Discussion Uveitis due to brimonidine is a rare adverse effect, but it must be known. Once the diagnosis is suspected, the effective treatment is the withdrawal of brimonidine, with or without the addition of topical corticosteroids to control inflammation depending on the severity of the condition. It is a process with an excellent prognosis.

The Vascular Anatomy of the Inner Anterior Abdominal Wall with Special Reference to the Transversus and Rectus Abdominis Musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) Co…

1997

This study was designed to clarify the vascularization of the inner anterior abdominal wall with respect to the novel transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) flap, which was introduced recently for vaginal reconstruction. A series of human cadavers was injected with a lead oxide-gelatine mixture by means of the deep inferior epigastric artery and subsequently dissected and examined by radiography. In all cases we found that the blood supply of the entire rectus abdominis muscle from the symphysis to the costal arch and that of the medial 10 to 15 cm of the transversus abdominis muscle, as well as the underlying peritoneum, was provided by several branches of the deep infe…

Propeller Flaps in the Head and Neck

2020

AbstractPropeller flaps have significantly expanded the reconstruction possibilities in the head and neck region. They allow for increased flap mobility and better scar concealing, and/or to perform a one-stage reconstruction with local tissue of similar color and texture, where multiple surgeries would be needed with traditional flaps or even free flaps would be required. This article describes the main propeller flaps for one-stage reconstruction in the head–neck region (facial artery perforator, supratrochlear artery axial perforator, deep lingual artery axial perforator, and anterior supraclavicular artery perforator flaps), their indications, and possible complications. Aesthetic and f…

Clinical and epidemiological profile of cleft lip and palate patients in Peru, 2006 ? 2019

2021

Background The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical-epidemiological profile of patients with cleft lip and / or palate in Peru from 2006 to 2019. Material and Methods This retrospective and cross-sectional study analyzed 3,923 patients with cleft lip and palate attended by surgical missions of the Operacion Sonrisa Peru from January 2006 to December 2019. The clinical profile of the patients treated included: type of cleft (cleft lip CL, cleft palate CP, cleft lip and palate CLP and submucosal SM), surgery performed (cheiloplasty, palatoplasty, cleft rhinoplasty, fistula repair, pharyngeal flap), surgical time according to number of interventions. Likewise, affiliation variab…

Robot-assisted or pure laparoscopic nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy: What is the optimal procedure for the surgical margins? A single center expe…

2012

Objectives:  To compare positive surgical margin rates after robot-assisted and pure laparoscopic radical prostatectomy when neurovascular bundles are preserved, and to identify parameters affecting surgical margin status. Methods:  From March 2004 to January 2009, 279 consecutive prostatectomies with preservation of neurovascular bundles were carried out by the same surgeon: 175 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies and 104 laparoscopic radical prostatectomies. An intraperitoneal Montsouris's technique was used for all cases. Patient's age, body mass index, prostate weight, prostate-specific antigen level, clinical stage, preoperative and postoperative Gleason score, percentage of positiv…

Subcutaneous Vulvar Flap Viability Evaluation With Near-Infrared Probe and Indocyanine Green for Vulvar Cancer Reconstructive Surgery: A Feasible Tec…

2021

Introduction: Vulvar cancer is a rare condition affecting older women and accounts for 3–5% of all gynecological cancers. Primary surgical treatment involves the removal of a large amount of tissue for which reconstructive surgery is often necessary with a high rate of postoperative complications. Despite several techniques for the evaluation of vulvar flap viability have been proposed, many methods cannot be performed during surgery and require expensive devices often missing in a gynecological clinic. This study aims to verify the feasibility and the safety of the vulvar flap viability evaluation through a near-infrared endoscopic probe and Indocyanine green (ICG) tracer in a small group …

OneShot-M: A New Device for Close Laparoscopy Pneumoperitoneum

2018

Introduction. The induction of pneumoperitoneum is the first and most critical phase of laparoscopy, due to the significant risk of serious vascular and visceral complications. The closed technique for the creation of pneumoperitoneum could lead to several surgical complications. The present study aimed to overcome the complications associated with the insertion of Veress needle, improving its use, and facilitating the rapid creation of pneumoperitoneum. Methods. Thirty large white female pigs were enrolled in our study. A common plunger was modified in order to allow the passage of a 15-cm long Veress needle. This method was applied to 26 laparoscopic procedures (26 pigs) of several speci…
