The Predictors of Literacy Skills among Monolingual and Bilingual Finnish–Swedish Children During First Grade

The aim of the study was to examine which predictor variables are related to literacy skills among monolingual Swedish (n = 269) and bilingual Finnish–Swedish (n = 229) children at the first grade in the Swedish-speaking schools in Finland. The participants were assessed in phonological awareness, letter knowledge, rapid automatized naming (RAN), word recognition, reading fluency, and spelling. The results showed that RAN was the most significant predictor of reading and spelling skills in both language groups, and monolingual children performed significantly better in RAN. Although a surgical approach is one of the key treatments for stages IA1-IIA2, results of the Laparoscopic Approach to Cervical Cancer (LACC) published in 2018 radically changed the field, since minimally invasive surgery was associated with a four-fold higher rate of recurrence and a six-fold higher rate of all-cause death compared to an open approach. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a novel, manualized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy group intervention (Navigator ACT) in a sample of 94 parents of children with disabilities. Feasibility was measured by treatment completion, credibility, and satisfaction, and preliminary outcomes by using self-rating scales administered at the baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman aiheena on esi- ja alkuopetusikäisen lapsen sosiaalisen ja emotionaalisen kompetenssin tukeminen koulukontekstissa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli luoda interventio, joka tukee lapsen sosiaalisen ja emotionaalisen kompetenssin kehitystä. Lisäksi tarkoituksena oli kuvailla tutkimukseen osallistuneiden lasten sosiaalisia ja emotionaalisia taitoja niiltä osin kuin ne interventiossa tulivat esiin. Aihevalintaa ohjasi tutkijoiden kiinnostus ja koettu tarve tukea lasten sosiaalista ja emotionaalista kompetenssia kouluarjessa.
