Landscape Architecture Design as a Resource in the Regeneration of Sicilian Mining Landscapes

This contribution regards mining landscape in Sicily and its physical dimension. It has been shaped by the stratification of different layers such as topography, geology, vegetation, roads, functions, existing buildings and structures, underground spaces. The purpose of the paper is to understand their relations and their shapes, through a specific case study. We are dealing with a large mining park in the middle of Sicily, characterized by the layering of the various elements previously described.

Novel 3D bio-macromolecular bilinear descriptors for protein science: Predicting protein structural classes

In the present study, we introduce novel 3D protein descriptors based on the bilinear algebraic form in the ℝn space on the coulombic matrix. For the calculation of these descriptors, macromolecular vectors belonging to ℝn space, whose components represent certain amino acid side-chain properties, were used as weighting schemes. Generalization approaches for the calculation of inter-amino acidic residue spatial distances based on Minkowski metrics are proposed. The simple- and double-stochastic schemes were defined as approaches to normalize the coulombic matrix. Abstract During the last few decades, the development of new anticancer strategies had to face the instability of many tumors, occurring when the genetic plasticity of cells produces new drug-resistant cancers. It has been shown that a chaperone protein, heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), is one of the fundamental factors involved in the cell response to stresses, and its role in many biochemical pathways has been demonstrated. Thus, the inhibition of Hsp90 represents a new target of antitumor therapy, since it may influence many specific signaling pathways.
