Research Findings: The aim of the present study was to examine classroom quality profiles of kindergarten classrooms using a person-centered approach and to analyze these patterns in regard to teacher and classroom characteristics. Observations of the domains of Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support were conducted in 49 Finnish kindergarten classrooms utilizing the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (R. Associations Between Reading Skills, Interest in Reading, and Teaching Practices in First Grade

ABSTRACTThis study examined associations between classroom-level reading fluency, comprehension, interest in reading, and teaching practices. Participants were 466 children from 21 classrooms. Reading fluency and interest were assessed at the beginning and end of Grade 1, reading comprehension at the end of Grade 1. Teaching practices were observed with the Early Childhood Classroom Observation Measure (ECCOM). Teachers were more likely to use teacher-directed methods in classrooms where children had poorer initial reading fluency. Longitudinal and cross-sectional associations of adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines with cardiometabolic risk

This study aimed to examine 1) adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines over a 2-year follow-up in children aged 6-8 years and 2) association of this adherence with cardiometabolic risk factors. Physical activity and sleep were assessed by a monitor combining heart rate and accelerometry measurements. Screen time was reported by the parents. Body fat percentage, waist circumference, blood glucose, serum insulin, plasma lipids and blood pressure were assessed, and a cardiometabolic risk score was calculated using z-scores. Associations of Children’s Close Reading Distance and Time Spent Indoors with Myopia, Based on Parental Questionnaire

Purpose: To study the association of parents’ reports about their children’s near work and outdoor habits with myopia in their children. Methods: Data from a questionnaire study conducted in 1983 among Finnish schoolchildren were reanalyzed. Vision screening had been performed for all the schoolchildren (n = 4961) in the 1st, 5th, and 8th grades (7-, 11-, and 15-year-olds) in an area of Central Finland. Tässä tutkimuksessa rajaudutaan tarkastelemaan varhaiskasvatusta tieteenalan perspektiivistä. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan akateemisen kentän muotoutumista ja varhaiskasvatuksen sisällöllistä määrittymistä. Aineistona ovat Suomen varhaiskasvatuksen professoreiden virantäyttöprosesseissa tuotetut dokumentit. Tutkimuksemme painottuu erityisesti akateemisen kentän keskeisten toimijoiden - asiantuntijoiden ja viranhakijoiden - identifioimiseen. Pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt kādas saistības pastāv starp depresijas simptomu izteiktību, bērnībā pārciesto nelabvēlīgas pieredzi un agrīnajām neadaptīvām shēmām un noskaidrot, vai bērnības nelabvēlīgas pieredzes rādītāji paredz agrīno neadaptīvu shēmu radītājus un, savukārt, vai agrīno neadaptīvo shēmu rādītāji paredz depresijas simptomu izteiktību personām ar diagnosticētu depresiju un psihiski veselām personām.
