Barriers and wellbeing-oriented enablers of intergenerational innovation in the digital age

2021

AbstractSo far, researchers have used a wellbeing-centered approach to catalyze successful intergenerational collaboration (IGC) in innovative activities. However, due to the subject’s multidisciplinary nature, there is still a dearth of comprehensive research devoted to constructing the IGC system. Thus, the purpose of this study is to fill a research void by providing a conceptual framework for information technology (IT) system designers to use as a jumping-off point for designing an IGC system with a wellbeing-oriented design. A systematic literature study was conducted to identify relevant terms and develop a conceptual framework based on a review of 75 selected scientific papers. The …

Designing knowledge construction in pre-service teachers’ collaborative planning talk

2022

In this paper, we report on a qualitative study of student teachers’ collaboration in planning and implementing a course that integrated physics and the Finnish language. Audio-recorded planning sessions and interviews were examined using qualitative content analysis, first, to discover what kind of space for knowledge construction student teachers designed for learners and, second, to identify the characteristics of their collaboration in developing a new cross-disciplinary pedagogical practice. The analysis revealed challenges in integrating meaning-making resources for knowledge construction; especially the role of language remained mostly invisible. This indicates a need to develop teac…

Covalently modified halloysite clay nanotubes: synthesis, properties, biological and medical applications

2017

Halloysite (HNT) is a promising natural nanosized tubular clay mineral that has many important uses in different industrial fields. It is naturally occurring, biocompatible, and available in thousands of tons at low cost. As a consequence of a hollow cavity, HNT is mainly used as nanocontainer for the controlled release of several chemicals. Chemical modification of both surfaces (inner lumen and outer surface) is a strategy to tune the nanotube's properties. Specifically, chemical modification of HNT surfaces generates a nanoarchitecture with targeted affinity through outer surface functionalization and drug transport ability from functionalization of the nanotube lumen. The primary focus …

Effects of an eccentric training programme on hamstring strain injuries in women football players

2015

Summary Study aim: to test the hypothesis that an eccentric training programme applied on women football players would reduce the hamstring injury rate by improving thigh muscle balance and, particularly, hamstring strength. Material and methods: three football teams were recruited for this randomised controlled trial. They played in the first and second divisions in Spain. Players were randomised within clubs either to the intervention (eccentric exercises, n = 22) or control (control exercises, n = 21) groups, and randomisation was stratified according to previous history of thigh strains. The eccentric programme was divided into 3 phases, and each phase was composed of 7 weeks. Complianc…

Knowledge regarding diabetes among students of the final year of medicine in Poland

2021

Introduction: There is a rising number of people with diabetes worldwide. It was the first non-infectious disease to be acknowledged by the Word Health Organization as an epidemy. This is the first study to assess basic diabetes-related knowledge among students of the final year of medicine in Poland. Materials and methods: Medical students from: Medical University of Silesia (Schools of Medicine in Katowice(34%) and Medicine with the Division of Dentistry in Zabrze(32%)), Medical University of Warsaw(12%) and Medical University of Lodz(22%) completed an anonymous questionnaire (519 responses (63.8% women); response rate 68.7%). The survey covered five questions concerning the respondent an…

Ecosystem Under Construction: An Action Research Study on Entrepreneurship in a Business Ecosystem

2012

In recent years, we have seen increasing interest in new service concepts that take advantage of the capabilities of business ecosystems instead of single companies. In this article, we describe how a business ecosystem begins to develop around a service business idea proposed by an entrepreneur. We aim to recognize the different domains of players that are or should be involved in the ecosystem while it is under construction. The article concludes with an ecosystem model consisting of six sub-ecosystems having different change drivers and clockspeeds. All great things are based on a series of small things, and all the small things need hard work.

Combining Social Service and Healthcare as the First Country in the World : Exploring the Impacts on Information Systems

2018

The Finnish government has decided to implement a reform in the social and healthcare system by combining the two in the future. There are several drivers for this change that have been identified. Large number of information systems that are not interoperable, challenges in data management and isolated service offering are the most significant ones. In the government’s strategy for the future the digitalisation will provide tools to solve these challenges. In this paper the landscape is outlined and the architecture choices are discussed. The enterprise architecture is applied for the largest county comprising of over 1900 social service and healthcare related information systems. The targ…

The Role of Knowledge in Provision of Medical Services

2016

The purpose of this a rticle is to point out the character of medical services and role of knowledge i n provision of the processes. The amount of knowledge that appears at different stages of hospital processing results in a lack of control over its repetitive elements. Much information is often sourced multiple times as it is not properly classified, organized and gathered. One of the aspects of improving processes in healthcare units is an access in the right place and time to information resources that mark the particular patient and access to knowledge resources that support processing of medical services in the area of diagnosis and treatment processes.

Surface and interface effects on the current-voltage characteristic curves of multiwall carbon nanotube-Si hybrid junctions selectively probed throug…

2021

The possibility to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) cells based on hybrid carbon nanotube (CNT)–Si heterojunctions is related to the ability to control the chemical properties of the CNT–Si interface and of the CNT bundle layer. In spite of the encouraging performances of PV cells based on multiwall (MW) CNT, so far few efforts have been made in the study of this device compared to single wall (SW) CNT–Si interfaces. Here, surface and interface effects on the current–voltage characteristic curves of MW CNT–Si hybrid junctions are investigated through exposure to HF vapors and to 10 ppm-NO2 and compared to the effects detected in SW CNT–Si junctions. Quite similar results in term…
