Enrique de Villena (1384-1434), noble aficionado a las letras, autor bilingüe en catalán y castellano, residente algunos años (ca. 1416-1429) de manera intermitente en la corte valenciana de Alfonso V de Aragón y Juan de Navarra, influyó en el concepto de literatura del autor de la novela caballeresca Curial e Güelfa (Enyego d’Àvalos?), escrita en catalán (Nápoles-Milán, c. 1445-1448) y relacionable con la corte italiana del Magnánimo. El Curial presenta conexiones intertextuales con la obra de Villena, además de hápax y neologismos compartidos. Gold(I)-Catalyzed Intermolecular Cycloaddition of Allenamides with α,β-Unsaturated Hydrazones: Efficient Access to Highly Substituted Cyclobutanes

α,β-Unsaturated N,N-dialkyl hydrazones undergo a mild [2 + 2] cycloaddition to allenamides when treated with a suitable gold catalyst. The method, which represents the first application of N,N-dialkyl hydrazones in gold catalysis, is compatible with a wide variety of substituents at the alkenyl moiety of the hydrazone component, proceeds with excellent levels of regio- and diastereoselectivity, and provides densely substituted cyclobutanes with good to excellent yields.

Desulfurization: Critical step towards enhanced selenium removal from industrial effluents

Abstract Selenium (Se) removal from synthetic solutions and from real Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wastewater generated by a coal-fired power plant was studied for the first time using a commercial iron oxide impregnated strong base anion exchange resin, Purolite ® FerrIX A33E. In synthetic solutions, the resin showed high affinity for selenate and selenite, while sulfate exhibited a strong competition for both oxyanions. The FGD wastewater investigated is a complex system that contains Se (∼1200 μg L −1 ), SO 4 2− (∼1.1 g L −1 ), Cl − (∼9.5 g L −1 ), and Ca 2+ (∼5 g L −1 ), alongside a broad spectrum of toxic trace metals including Cd, Cr, Hg, Ni, and Zn. Many hundreds of genes are involved in the synthesis, maintenance and degradation of chloroplasts. Although quite a number of these genes are located in the chloroplast genome, by far the greater proportion is present in the nuclear genome. The sizes of chloroplast DNAs (cpDNA) were estimated from restriction enzyme mapping studies and the complete sequences of different cpDNAs from diverse plant lineages have been determined to date (Marchantia polymorpha [1], Nicotiana tabacum [2], Oryza saliva [3], Epifagus virginiana [4], Euglena gracilis [5], Pinus thunbergii [6], Porphyra purpurea [7], Odontella sinensis [8], Zea mays [9], Chlorella vulgaris [10]).
