EmoTIC: Impact of a game-based social-emotional programme on adolescents

2021

[EN] Introduction Technologies provide a brilliant opportunity to promote social-emotional competences, well-being and adjustment in adolescence. Game-based programmes and serious games are digital tools that pursue an educational goal in an attractive environment for adolescents. The purpose of this study was therefore to determine the effectiveness of emoTIC, a game-based social-emotional programme designed according to Mayer, Caruso, and Salovey's model of emotional intelligence. Materials and methods The participants were 119 adolescents between 11 and 15 years, randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. The adolescents completed questionnaires to assess their em…

ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE THE SELF-LEARNING OF THE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STUDENT OUTCOME

2018

[EN] Universities all over the world are implementing a competence-based type of teaching and learning to guarantee certain student learning outcomes at the end of the studies. To reach these student outcomes, active methodologies should be included in teaching practice at the same time that carefully designed rubrics might be used for the evaluation of the students. Despite the fact that teachers introduce more and more authentic tasks in the classroom, these activities are not still well employed by all the University teaching staff. The goal of this work is to propose a guideline of activities to promote the self-learning of the effective communication outcome by the students. For that p…

GyDB mobilomics: LTR retroelements and integrase-related transposons of the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum genome

2011

[EN] The Gypsy Database concerning Mobile Genetic Elements (release 2.0) is a wiki-style project devoted to the phylogenetic classification of LTR retroelements and their viral and host gene relatives characterized from distinct organisms. Furthermore, GyDB 2.0 is concerned with studying mobile elements within genomes. Therefore, an in-progress repository was created for databases with annotations of mobile genetic elements from particular genomes. This repository is called Mobilomics and the first uploaded database contains 549 LTR retroelements and related transposases which have been annotated from the genome of the Pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum. Mobilomics is accessible from the GyDB 2.…

Los años 70 en Valencia. La consolidación de estéticas y lenguajes individuales

1988

Simulating multilevel dynamics of antimicrobial resistance in a membrane computing model

2019

Membrane computing is a bio-inspired computing paradigm whose devices are the so-called membrane systems or P systems. The P system designed in this work reproduces complex biological landscapes in the computer world. It uses nested “membrane-surrounded entities” able to divide, propagate, and die; to be transferred into other membranes; to exchange informative material according to flexible rules; and to mutate and be selected by external agents. This allows the exploration of hierarchical interactive dynamics resulting from the probabilistic interaction of genes (phenotypes), clones, species, hosts, environments, and antibiotic challenges. Our model facilitates analysis of several aspects…

A survey on sleep assessment methods

2018

Purpose A literature review is presented that aims to summarize and compare current methods to evaluate sleep. Methods Current sleep assessment methods have been classified according to different criteria; e.g., objective (polysomnography, actigraphy…) vs. subjective (sleep questionnaires, diaries…), contact vs. contactless devices, and need for medical assistance vs. self-assessment. A comparison of validation studies is carried out for each method, identifying their sensitivity and specificity reported in the literature. Finally, the state of the market has also been reviewed with respect to customers’ opinions about current sleep apps. Results A taxonomy that classifies the sleep detect…

A survey on sleep questionnaires and diaries.

2017

[EN] Sleep assessment is a fundamental part of health evaluation. In fact, many diseases (such as obesity, diabetes, or hypertension, as well as psychiatric, neurological, and cardiovascular diseases) produce sleep disorders that are often used as indicators, diagnosis (symptoms), or even as predictors (eg, for depression) of health. For this reason, many efforts have been devoted to designing methods to control and report on sleep quality. Two of the most used sleep assessment tools are sleep questionnaires and sleep diaries. Both methods have a very low cost are easy to administer do not require a sleep centre (unlike, eg, polysomnography), and can be self-administered. Most important, as…

First-Episode Psychotic Patients Showed Longitudinal Brain Changes Using fMRI With an Emotional Auditory Paradigm

2020

[EN] Most previous longitudinal studies of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in first-episode psychosis (FEP) using cognitive paradigm task found an increased activation after antipsychotic medications. We designed an emotional auditory paradigm to explore brain activation during emotional and nonemotional word processing. This study aimed to analyze if longitudinal changes in brain fMRI BOLD activation is present in patients vs. healthy controls. A group of FEP patients (n = 34) received clinical assessment and had a fMRI scan at baseline and follow-up (average, 25-month interval). During the fMRI scan, both emotional and nonemotional words were presented as a block design. Resu…

HabitApp: New Play Technologies in Pediatric Cancer to Improve the Psychosocial State of Patients and Caregivers

2020

[EN] Childhood cancer involves long periods of hospitalization that trigger emotions such as fear or sadness. Previous research has studied the positive effects of technology games on improving the hospitalization experience, but most do not focus on caregivers and none allow interaction with the real time observation of a zoo. The present study evaluates the impact of HabitApp and assesses the short-term impact on the psychosocial state of patients and caregivers in order to improve the hospitalization experience. The participants in this study were 39 patients plus 39 caregivers. A quantitative analysis revealed a significant improvement in patient's and caregiver's psychosocial factors f…
