Molecular structures of Se(SCH3)2 and Te(SCH3)2 using gas-phase electron diffraction and ab initio and DFT geometry optimisations

2005

The molecular structures of Se(SCH3)2 and Te(SCH3)2 were investigated using gas-phase electron diffraction (GED) and ab initio and DFT geometry optimisations. While parameters involving H atoms were refined using flexible restraints according to the SARACEN method, parameters that depended only on heavy atoms could be refined without restraints. The GED-determined geometric parameters (rh1) are: rSe-S 219.1(1), rS-C 183.2(1), rC-H 109.6(4) pm; S-Se-S 102.9(3), Se-S-C 100.6(2), S-C-H (mean) 107.4(5), S-Se-S-C 87.9(20), Se-S-C-H 178.8(19)° for Se(SCH3)2, and rTe-S 238.1(2), rS-C 184.1(3), rC-H 110.0(6) pm; S-Te-S 98.9(6), Te-S-C 99.7(4), S-C-H (mean) 109.2(9), S-Te-S-C 73.0(48), Te-S-C-H 180.…

Conjugated linolenic acid (CLna), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and other biohydrogenation intermediates in plasma and milk fat of cows fed raw or …

2007

International audience; Thirty lactating dairy cows were used in a 333 Latin-square design to investigate the effects of a raw or extruded blend of linseed and wheat bran (70:30) on plasma and milk fatty-acids (FA). Linseed diets, containing 16.6% linseed blend on a dry-matter basis, decreased milk yield and protein percentage. They decreased the proportions of FA with less than 18 carbons in plasma and milk and resulted in cis -9, cis -12, cis -15 18:3 proportions that were more than three and four times higher in plasma and milk, respectively, whereas cis -9, cis -12 18:2 proportions were decreased by 10–15%. The cis -9, trans -11, cis -15 18:3 isomer of conjugated linolenic acid was not …

In vivo monitoring of alkaloid metabolism in hybrid plant cell cultures by 2D cryo-NMR without labelling

2003

Non-invasive measurements of alkaloid metabolism in plant cell suspension cultures of a somatic hybrid from Rauvolfia serpentina Benth. ex Kurz and Rhazya stricta Decaisne were carried out. When cell samples were taken sequentially from a stock feeding experiment, measuring times for in vivo NMR of 40 min were sufficient for following conversions of alkaloids at the natural abundance of 13C. Degradation of ajmaline added to the cells at 1.6 mM concentration to raumacline could be monitored after 96 h on a standard 800 MHz NMR instrument (Avance 800). Feeding vinorine an intermediate of ajmaline biosynthesis at 1.8 mM showed with a 500 MHz CryoProbe that the alkaloid enters two metabolic rou…

Difensil immuno reduces recurrence and severity of tonsillitis in children: A randomized controlled trial

2020

Oral supplements (OS) support the immune system in fighting upper airways infection. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Difensil Immuno (DI) on the recurrence of tonsillitis and fever in children. A multicentric randomized clinical trial was conducted. One-hundred and twenty children with chronic tonsillitis were randomly assigned to group A, B or control. Patients in group A were treated with 10 mL of DI for 90 consecutive days, patients in group B underwent treatment with 15 mL of DI for 45 consecutive days. The following data were collected at baseline (T0), T1 and T2: tonsillitis and fever episodes, tonsillar volume, blood test results. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze within an…

Association between toenail scandium levels and risk of acute myocardial infarction in European men: the EURAMIC and Heavy Metals Study

2002

The association between scandium status and risk of acute myocardial infarction (MI) was examined in a multicentre case control study in 10 centres from Europe and Israel. Scandium in toenails was assessed in 684 cases and 724 controls less than 70 years of age. Mean concentrations of toenail scandium were 6.74 micro/kg in cases and 7.75 microg/kg in controls. Scandium among controls, adjusted for age and centre was positively associated with concentrations of lycopene and oleic acid in adipose tissue (P = 0.002 for both nutrients). Pearson correlations adjusted for age and centre were significant (P0.05) between scandium and lycopene (r = 0.08), zinc (r = 0.08), mercury (r = 0.18) and olei…

Rapid progression of a splenic aneurysm due to segmental arterial mediolysis: a rare cause of acute pancreatitis.

2013

Abstract Background The etiology of acute pancreatitis can be manifold, beside the usual causes. We are reporting an unusual cause that triggered acute pancreatitis. Patient & results A 50 year-old male experienced attacks of acute pancreatitis (abdominal pain and elevated amylase and lipase) during sexual arousal. Serial imaging showed a rapidly-progressing, partly-thrombosed splenic artery aneurysm, with local compression of the pancreas. After angiographic coiling, the attacks subsided. Further angiography revealed additional aneurysms consistent with segmental arterial mediolysis at other sites of the body. Molecular analysis regarding Ehlers–Danlos-syndrome and genetic factors for panc…

α,β-poly(asparthylhydrazide)–glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride copolymers (PAHy–GTA): novel polymers with potential for DNA delivery

2001

Hydrophilic polycations form complexes when mixed with plasmids. Following functionalisation with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTA) alpha,beta-poly(asparthylhydrazide) (PAHy), a water-soluble synthetic macromolecule, becomes polycationic and potentially useful for systemic gene delivery. Initially the biocompatibility of PAHy and PAHy-GTA derivatives with different degrees of positive charge substitution were studied and it was shown that PAHy-GTA was neither haemolytic nor cytotoxicity up to 1 mg/ml. After intravenous injection (125)I-labelled PAHy-GTA derivative containing 46 mol% (PAHy-GTA(b)) of trimethylammonium groups did not accumulate in the liver (4.1+/-0.9% of the recovered…

Rituximab with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, non-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin and prednisone as first-line treatment for splenic marginal zone ly…

2015

Rituximab ® provides high response rates and effective disease palliation in patients with splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL). We conducted a phase II trial in patients with SMZL who were either untreated or were splenectomized but had shown disease progression within 1 year after splenectomy. Treatment consisted of six courses of Rituximab with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, non-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin and prednisone (R-COMP). Fifty-one patients were eligible for the analysis. The overall response rate was 84%. The 6-year progression-free survival and overall survival were 54% and 72%, respectively. Toxicity was substantial (grade ≥ 3 neutropenia: 26%; grade ≥ 3 infections: 8%).…
