Cancer care for the homeless population: a literature review

2020

Abstract Background The last global survey in 2005 of the United Nations estimated that 100 million people were homeless. Cancer is becoming one of the most important public health problems worldwide, but specifically, the prevalence of cancer-related mortality for the homeless population has been reported to be double compared to the average adult population. To date, health research pays insufficient attention to studying cancer and improving the delivery of cancer care for the homeless population. Methods A systematic literature review of relevant databases was employed to identify all the quantitative studies addressing cancer care for the homeless population in English, Spanish, French…

Since the spectral efficiency of wireless communications is already close to its fundamental bounds, a significant increase in spatial efficiency is required to meet future traffic demands. Device-to-device (D2D) communications provide such an increase by allowing nearby u…

<title>Statistical bandwidth allocation for multiservice networks</title>

2002

Multiservice networks will carry di erent kinds of applications in the near future. Bandwidth requirements change rapidly, and the network resource management will play an important role to guarantee the use of the limited resources in the most eAEcient way. We approach the channel capacity allocation problem by developing an SLA (Service Level Agreement) based channel allocation method. In our model, the channel may be wired or wireless, so this method can be adapted in multi-technique networks. The algorithm allocates resources to several di erent service classes via several di erent capacity routes. Service provider perfroms optimization by allocating data rate in such a way that the sat…

A Trajectory-Driven 3D Channel Model for Human Activity Recognition

2021

This paper concerns the design, analysis, and simulation of a 3D non-stationary channel model fed with inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. The work in this paper provides a framework for simulating the micro-Doppler signatures of indoor channels for human activity recognition by using radiofrequency-based sensing technologies. The major human body segments, such as wrists, ankles, torso, and head, are modelled as a cluster of moving point scatterers. We provide expressions for the time variant (TV) speed and TV angles of motion based on 3D trajectories of the moving person. Moreover, we present mathematical expressions for the TV Doppler shifts and TV path gains associated with each movin…

NMR chemical shift computations at second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory using gauge-including atomic orbitals and Cholesky-decomposed two-…

2021

We report on a formulation and implementation of a scheme to compute NMR shieldings at second-order Moller-Plesset (MP2) perturbation theory using gauge-including atomic orbitals (GIAOs) to ensure gauge-origin independence and Cholesky decomposition (CD) to handle unperturbed as well as perturbed two-electron integrals. We investigate the accuracy of the CD for the derivatives of the two-electron integrals with respect to an external magnetic field as well as for the computed NMR shieldings, before we illustrate the applicability of our CD based GIAO-MP2 scheme in calculations involving up to about one hundred atoms and more than one thousand basis functions.

A Comprehensive Survey on Signcryption Security Mechanisms in Wireless Body Area Networks

2022

WBANs (Wireless Body Area Networks) are frequently depicted as a paradigm shift in healthcare from traditional to modern E-Healthcare. The vitals of the patient signs by the sensors are highly sensitive, secret, and vulnerable to numerous adversarial attacks. Since WBANs is a real-world application of the healthcare system, it’s vital to ensure that the data acquired by the WBANs sensors is secure and not accessible to unauthorized parties or security hazards. As a result, effective signcryption security solutions are required for the WBANs’ success and widespread use. Over the last two decades, researchers have proposed a slew of signcryption security solutions to achieve this goal. The la…

STUDENT TEACHERS’ PROBLEMS IN TEACHING ‘ELECTROLYSIS’ WITH A KEY DEMONSTRATION

2002

This study is concerned with student teachers’ conceptions about teaching the topic of electrolysis and difficulties they encounter. The aim of the study was also to find out how the student teachers understand the meaning of a key demonstration that would show the main features of the phenomenon. During this study eight chemistry student teachers were invited to write a lesson plan on the topic of electrolysis for lower secondary level, grade 8 pupils (age 14 to 15). The written lesson plans and the semi-structured interviews were collected and analysed by using a set of analytical categories. Only two of the eight student teachers had a clear view that electrolysis is a process where an e…

EDXRF and TXRF analysis of elemental size distributions and environmental mobility of airborne particles in the city of Riga, Latvia

2004

Airborne particles were investigated in the central part of Riga during October 2000. Mass, black carbon and elemental concentrations of airborne particles were measured on Teflon filters from a dichotomous impactor, which samples fine (<2.5 µm) and coarse (2.5‐10 µm) fractions of particles. In order to obtain more detailed information on the size distributions of different elements, a seven-stage Batelle cascade impactor was used, in which quartz plates treated with silicone grease were utilized as backing for the different stages. Total reflection x-ray fluorescence (TXRF) and energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry were used for elemental analysis on the quartz plates a…

Wireless MAC processors: programming MAC protocols on commodity hardware

2012

Programmable wireless platforms aim at responding to the quest for wireless access flexibility and adaptability. This paper introduces the notion of wireless MAC processors. Instead of implementing a specific MAC protocol stack, Wireless MAC processors do support a set of Medium Access Control “commands” which can be run-time composed (programmed) through software-defined state machines, thus providing the desired MAC protocol operation. We clearly distinguish from related work in this area as, unlike other works which rely on dedicated DSPs or programmable hardware platforms, we experimentally prove the feasibility of the wireless MAC processor concept over ultra-cheap commodity WLAN hardw…
