There are many issues that affect to WLAN connections (walls, vegetation, rain, objects in the Fresnel zone, etc.). Network designers and telecommunication practitioners must take them into account when they are planning wireless connections between devices. Some studies have demonstrated the implication of the atmospheric variables in the frequency attenuation and in the line of sight of the waves. Evaluating activator-inhibitor mechanisms for sensors coordination

The possibility to employ reaction-diffusion models to build spatial patterns in sensor networks has been advocated in other works. Nevertheless it has not been investigated how the biologically-inspired solutions perform in comparison to more traditional ones taking into account specificities of sensor networks like severe energy constraints. In this paper we present some preliminary results on the comparison between a biologically inspired coordination mechanism based on activator-inhibitor interaction and a simple mechanism, where nodes do not communicate but activate their sensing circuitry according to some probability.

Abstract A detailed study of the marine sediments collected on the inner shelf of some of the selected areas of the central Mediterranean Sea has been carried out in order to verify the presence of exotic benthic foraminiferal species. Since 2000, the coastal marine environments of the Pelagian Islands and of Sicily (central Mediterranean) have been increasingly colonized by exotic species (i.e. fishes and algae) originating both from the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. Free vibrations of anisotropic panels

A meshfree approach, called Displacement Boundary Method, for the analysis of in-plane and out-of-plane free vibrations of anisotropic plates is presented. The discretization process is based on the use of a modified variational principle and the static fundamental solutions of the problem operators. The stiffness and mass matrices are frequencyindependent, symmetric and positive definite and their computation requires boundary integrations of regular kernels only. Thus, the final resolving system can be solved with classical approaches by using standard numerical procedures. Numerical results are presented to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
