The amateur astronomer Anders Hellant and the plight of his observations of the transits of Venus in Tornio, 1761 and 1769

Anders Hellant was a versatile Swedish amateur scientist whose figure dominated eighteenth century intellectual life in Tornio, his little home town of some 500 inhabitants at the mouth of the Tornio river. My study is mainly based on the biographies published in Finnish (Bostr¨om 1918) and in Swedish (Tob´e 1991) but I have also consulted some original sources in Paris and in Stockholm. Hellant incarnated almost all by himself the inquiring scientific spirit of the Age of Enlightenment in Swedish Lapland. There is much to be said about his life and works, but here I focus on his observations of the Venus passages in 1761 and 1769. peerReviewed

Tra i cinque sensi, la vista e l’udito, secondo i Greci, hanno uno statuto particolare perché risultano i più adatti a produrre conoscenza. Per tutta una tradizione di pensiero, poi, tra i due, è la vista, in quanto senso attivo, a detenere il primato rispetto al passivo e ‘femmineo’ udito. Nastoletni ojcowie jako opiekunowie i wychowawcy własnych dzieci

Problematyka udziału nastoletnich ojców w opiece nad swoimi dziećmi i w ich wychowaniu stanowi aktualnie przedmiot rosnącego zainteresowania ze strony decydentów i społeczeństw. Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest przedstawienie arbitralnie wybranych wyników badań empirycznych, dzięki którym możliwe będzie poznanie udziału nastoletnich ojców w opiece nad dziećmi i w ich wychowaniu. Na podstawie przywołanych w niniejszym artykule wyników badań można stwierdzić, że większość nastoletnich ojców przejawia zainteresowanie sprawami swoich dzieci, a także deklaruje zaangażowanie w opiekę nad nimi nawet wtedy, kiedy nie mieszkają razem z nimi.

Mitä hyötyä on kääntäjänkoulutuksesta, kun kieli on uhanalainen? Miten pikakurssitetaan kielen elvyttäjiä vapaaehtoiskääntämiseen? Mitä tästä kaikesta jää opiskelijoille kirkkaimpana mieleen? Itä-Suomen yliopistossa toimi vuosina 2015–2019 Koneen Säätiön rahoittama Kiännä!-hanke, jonka tavoitteena oli tukea karjalan kielen elvytystä järjestämällä kääntäjänkoulutusta kielen puhujille ja elvyttäjille. Karjala on suomen lähin sukukieli, jolla on puhujia Suomessa ja Venäjällä. Kieli on vakavasti uhanalainen, ja kielen elvyttäjät ponnistelevat pitääkseen sen elävänä osana kielivarantoamme. nonPeerReviewed

INTRODUCTION: Achillodynia (Achilles tendon pain) is a significant source of disability for many sport people. Achilles tendon (AT) tear is the third most frequent major tendon disruption after those of the rotator cuff and knee extensor mechanism. The incidence of the AT tears is 11–18% overall. Unlike acute AT tear, chronic tear diagnosis is more difficult to make particularly when the chronic tear involves the AT only partially.
