The paper analyzes the well-known episode of Caesar visiting the ruins of troy (Luc. 9,9 50-999), focusing in particular on the poet’s desecrating voice, a voice against the Virgilian interpretation of history. Through Caesar’s gestures, words and prayers, Lucan expresses a critical judgment of his actions and of those who, among his successors, first of all Augustus, had advanced the project of a glorious re-founding of Troy. A project destined to be blatantly denied by history.

This paper is a contribution to the most recent studies about the literature practised at the declamation schools, finding out its fictional aspect. In the first part, we will consider the importance and the risks of such a fictional value. We will go through some paragraphs of Quintilian's Institutio Oratoria (2, 10 and 10, 5); in fact, in this work, the author condemns some excesses, yet he keeps on considering declamation a good practice. In the second part of the paper, a particular case study will be proposed. We will focus on the character of the stepmother, according to the excerpta of Calpurnius Flaccus. The «Cambridge Songs» («Carmina Cantabrigiensia») are a collection of short Latin poems which we find in the lone manuscript Gg. 35 (Ca), housed in the Cambridge University Library. The manuscript itself was produced at the monastery of St. Augustine in Canterbury, in the middle of the XIth century, just before the Norman invasion of England. The best part of the poems of the «Cambridge Songs» probably derives from Germany and belongs to a period between IXth and XIth centuries. The 84 poems of the collection display a diversity of form, content and function. We can extricate praise poetry for kings and bishops, erotic verses, nature poems, and other sort of writing less easily classified. …

L’esternazione, da parte dell’io narrante, di un desiderio d’amore (o anche soltanto sensuale, erotico, passionale) è un tema che ricorre a più riprese nei «Carmina Burana», costituendo uno dei temi portanti della seconda sezione della raccolta mediolatina, quella dedicata alle poesie d’amore.
