Social engagement from childhood to middle age and the effect of childhood socio-economic status on middle age social engagement: results from the Na…

2016

ABSTRACTSocial engagement has powerful effects on wellbeing, but variation in individual engagement throughout the lifecourse is wide. The trajectories may differ by gender and be affected by socio-economic status (SES). However, long-term development of social engagement is little studied and the effect of childhood SES on later-life social engagement remains obscure. We aimed to describe the social engagement development from childhood to middle age by gender and test the effect of childhood SES on middle age social engagement. Data (N=16,440, 51.3% male) are drawn from the on-going National Child Development Study, following British babies born in 1958. Social engagement was measured by …

Self-compassion and social functioning of people – research review

2015

Abstract Self-compassion is considered to be a healthy and adaptive attitude towards oneself, occurring both as a feature, as well as a state. Self-compassionate attitude towards oneself is composed of: a) kindness and understanding given to oneself b) mindfulness of one’s own experiences and c) a sense of community of experiences with humanity. Compassion towards oneself is structurally and functionally distinct from the self-commiseration and self-pity that lead to worse adaptation. Research shows that self-compassion is associated with better regulation of negative emotions. Neff (2003 a) in her theoretical assumption states that due to more effective emotion regulation , people with a h…

Utilizing ICT to prevent loneliness and social isolation of the elderly. A literature review

2016

Ageing of the population is a worldwide phenomenon. Numerous ICT-based solutions have been developed for elderly care but mainly connected to the physiological and nursing aspects in services for the elderly. Social work is a profession that should pay attention to the comprehensive wellbeing and social needs of the elderly. Many people experience loneliness and depression in their old age, either as a result of living alone or due to a lack of close family ties and reduced connections with their culture of origin, which results in an inability to participate actively in community activities (Singh & Misra, 2009). Participation in society would enhance the quality of life. With the deve…

#Underboobselfie, #aftersexselfie, #bikinibridgeselfie... La sexualité reste-t-elle encore un tabou dans les réseaux sociaux?

2017

Our contribution deals with computer-mediated communication, especially social networks. Our main task is to answer the question if sexuality in the context of new media continue to be perceived as a taboo. Based on examples of different types of selfies, we try to prove that the perception of sexuality in the context of computer mediated communication is constantly changing and ceases to be a taboo topic. Proof of this constatation is different types of selfies, which the author divides into three main categories: selfies revealing intimate parts of human body, selfies showing underwear and selfies that reveal the sexual act itself.

Self-regulation and Beyond: Affect Regulation and the Infant–Caregiver Dyad

2016

In the available psychological literature, affect regulation is fundamentally considered in terms of self-regulation, and according to this standard picture, the contribution of other people in our affect regulation has been viewed in terms of socially assisted selfregulation. The present article challenges this standard picture. By focusing on affect regulation as it unfolds in early infancy, it will be argued that instead of being something original and fundamental, self-regulation developmentally emerges from the basis of a further type of affect regulation. While infants’ capacities in recognizing, understanding, and modifying their own affective states are initially immature and undeve…

Study of social self-concept invariance in physical activity individual and collective practitioners

2019

Social Work and Welfare System in Italy: changes, critical issues, resiliencies

2019

The emergence and growth of the professional figure of the social worker in Italy dates back to the 20th century, when the concept of social assistance witnessed a more concrete legislative application, through the affirmation of the Social State, the type of State that aims to guarantee not only equality and freedom to its citizens, but also, what is known as, “social well-being”: “the profession of social worker, being the progeny of industrial society, assumes the form of the functional specialization of modern social-welfare activity” (Gui 2004: 3). Since the early years of the last century, the social worker (or “social assistant” as it has been the term given in Italy to the social wo…
