National audience; Le TGV Rhin-Rhône participe à une refonte de l'accessibilité ferroviaire des villes de l'espace métropolitain Rhin-Rhône (figure 1). Il apporte conjointement une puissante réduction des temps de parcours et une meilleure connexion aux aires rhénanes, rhodaniennes et franciliennes. Cela a conduit les villes, communautés urbaines et agglomérations de Bourgogne, de Franche-Comté et d'Alsace, ainsi que quelques voisines suisses et allemandes à fonder, dès 2005, le réseau métropolitain Rhin-Rhône.

High-speed rail, destined to reduce the times-distances between major French and European cities, tends to push intermediary spaces into a rather unfavorable situation. Strongly polarized by the large urban centers that surround them, these intermediary areas are usually reduced to their sole status of transit areas. However, the Eastern tract, the first section of the LGV Rhine-Rhône project, through its regional dimension, constitutes a factor in the emergence of a territorialization process of the Rhine-Rhone area.
