National audience; Le TGV Rhin-Rhône participe à une refonte de l'accessibilité ferroviaire des villes de l'espace métropolitain Rhin-Rhône (figure 1). Il apporte conjointement une puissante réduction des temps de parcours et une meilleure connexion aux aires rhénanes, rhodaniennes et franciliennes. Cela a conduit les villes, communautés urbaines et agglomérations de Bourgogne, de Franche-Comté et d'Alsace, ainsi que quelques voisines suisses et allemandes à fonder, dès 2005, le réseau métropolitain Rhin-Rhône.

High-speed rail, destined to reduce the times-distances between major French and European cities, tends to push intermediary spaces into a rather unfavorable situation. Strongly polarized by the large urban centers that surround them, these intermediary areas are usually reduced to their sole status of transit areas.
