Contribution of the physical, social, psychological and environmental domains to overall quality of life of the elderly

2006

O instrumento utilizado foi o Word Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Bref (WHOQOL-Bref), proposto pela Or…

Histaprodifens: synthesis, pharmacological in vitro evaluation, and molecular modeling of a new class of highly active and selective histamine H(1)-r…

2000

A new class of histamine analogues characterized by a 3, 3-diphenylpropyl substituent at the 2-position of the imidazole nucleus has been prepared outgoing from 4,4-diphenylbutyronitrile (4b) via cyclization of the corresponding methyl imidate 5b with 2-oxo-4-phthalimido-1-butyl acetate or 2-oxo-1,4-butandiol in liquid ammonia, followed by standard reactions. The title compounds displayed partial agonism on contractile H(1) receptors of the guinea-pig ileum and endothelium-denuded aorta, respectively, except 10 (histaprodifen; 2-[2-(3, 3-diphenylpropyl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl]ethanamine) which was a full agonist in the ileum assay. While 10 was equipotent with histamine (1), methylhistaprodifen (…

The role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone in murine preimplantation embryonic development.

1999

Previous studies have established the presence of an extrahypothalamic GnRH in a variety of tissues. GnRH receptor is known to be present in the placenta, which produces and secretes the decapeptide from the very early stages of placentation. We hypothesized that GnRH may play a role in the preimplantation development of embryos. To examine this hypothesis, we assessed GnRH and GnRH receptor messenger RNA (mRNA; RT-PCR) and protein expression (Immunohistochemistry) in preimplantation murine embryos at various developmental stages. Furthermore, preimplantation murine embryos were cultured with GnRH agonist and antagonist in vitro to assess the influence of GnRH analogs on embryo development.…

Influence of hormonal treatment on the response of the rat isolated uterus to histamine and histamine receptor agonists.

1992

The response of the isolated uterus to histamine and histamine agonists was investigated in progesterone- and oestrogen-treated rats. The uterine inhibitory responses to histamine and 4-methylhistamine (a histamine H2 receptor agonist) were similar in KCl-contracted uteri from progesterone- and oestrogen-treated rats. The histamine H1 receptor agonist, 2-pyridyl-ethylamine, produced a relaxant response only in progesterone dominant uterus. This was inhibited by the histamine H1 receptor antagonist. In the rat isolated uterus which was not preconstricted by KCl, neither histamine, 4-methylhistamine, nor 2-pyridyl-ethylamine produced any effect in the presence or absence of ranitidine. Raniti…

Physicochemical characterization of metal hexacyanometallate–TiO2composite materials

2015

The paper describes the synthesis and characterization of novel TiO2–metal hexacyanometallates (MHCMs) composite materials. The starting material, TiO2, was modified by addition of cobalt-hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) or iron-hexacyanocobaltate (FeHCC) at various concentrations. The resulting composites were characterized as follows: cyclic voltammetry (CV) followed the formation of TiO2–MHCM clusters, TEM micrographs studied their morphology, XAS and XPS data indicated that MHCM bonds to TiO2 through the nitrogen atom of its –CN group and modifies the environment of Ti compared to that of pure anatase. As expected, and confirmed by UV-Vis and XP-valence band data, the electronic properties of T…

A second strain gradient elasticity theory with second velocity gradient inertia – Part II: Dynamic behavior

2013

Abstract This paper is the sequel of a companion Part I paper devoted to the constitutive equations and to the quasi-static behavior of a second strain gradient material model with second velocity gradient inertia. In the present Part II paper, a multi-cell homogenization procedure (developed in the Part I paper) is applied to a nonhomogeneous body modelled as a simple material cell system, in conjunction with the principle of virtual work (PVW) for inertial actions (i.e. momenta and inertia forces), which at the macro-scale level takes on the typical format as for a second velocity gradient inertia material model. The latter (macro-scale) PVW is used to determine the equilibrium equations …

Inhibitory effects of N-acetylcysteine on superoxide anion generation in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

1997

Abstract It has been suggested that reactive oxygen species released by activated polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) in man is one mechanism of tissue injury. Therapeutic action aimed at increasing antioxidant defence mechanisms is still a clinical challenge. This study examines the activity of N-acetylcysteine, a known antioxidant, in the protection of PMN exposed in-vitro to the chemoattractant peptide fMet-Leu-Phe (FMLP), the protein kinase C activator phorbol myristate acetate or the lipid peroxidation promoter t-butyl hydroperoxide. FMLP (3–300 nm) and phorbol myristate acetate (160 pm–160 nm) induced concentration-related superoxide anion generation. Pre-treatment with N-acetylcystein…

Morphometric study on the effect of tenoxicam and its diluent in the venous endothelium, in rabbits

2001
