Stimuli-responsive bile acid-based metallogels forming in aqueous media

Abstract The synthesis and gelation properties of a picolinic acid conjugated bile acid derivative in the presence of metal salts along with the stimuli-responsiveness of the systems are reported. The gels are formed in the presence of Cu 2+ ions in the solvent systems composed of 30–50% of organic solvent (MeOH, acetonitrile, or acetone) in water. The gels respond to various stimuli: they can be formed upon sonication or shaking, and their gel–sol transformation can be triggered by a variety of chemical species. NMR, MS, and SEM techniques are exploited in order to gain a deeper insight on the self-assembled systems.

Time-of-use energy cost management involves the use of storage by customers to reduce their electricity bills. This can be accomplished by charging the storage during off-peak time periods, when electricity energy prices are low, and discharging it during times when on-peak energy prices are applied. Täplärapu (Pacifastacus leniusculus) on tulokaslaji Suomen vesistöissä. Sen on käyttäytymisellään ja ravinnonkäytöllään todettu vähentävän elinalueidensa eliöyhteisöjen monimuotoisuutta. Esimerkiksi Päijänteellä on havaittu joidenkin pohjaeläinten kuten kotiloiden tiheyksien olevan alhaisempia ravun elinalueilla kuin ravuttomilla alueilla. Pohjaselkärangattomat ovat välttämättömiä väli-isäntiä monelle kalan loiselle. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, millaisia muutoksia täplärapu voi välillisesti aiheuttaa kalojen loisyhteisöissä muuttamalla pohjaeläinten runsautta. La progressió del cicle cel.lular en les cèl.lules eucariotes es deu a l'activació seqüencial de diferents complexos CDK-ciclina. En Saccharomyces cerevisiae una sola CDK, Cdc28, s'associa amb nou ciclines diferents i és la ciclina la que determina la funció del complexe al llarg de cada fase del cicle cel.lular. Probing the Folding of Peptide–Polymer Conjugates Using the π-Dimerization of Viologen End-Groups

The synthesis of a foldable viologen-functionalized peptide–polymer conjugate is presented. The ABA-type triblock conjugate with a PEG polymer was capped with a FHFHF pentapeptide sequence and further modified with a viologen building block at both chain ends. The pH-responsive peptide domains fold into an intermediate structure inducing close proximity of the viologen units, which upon a reduction step form π-dimers of the radical cation. Overall the intramolecular folding and intermolecular self-assembly process leads to the formation of supramolecular nanorods.
