Coronary artery anomalies: incidence, pathophysiology, clinical relevance and role of diagnostic imaging

Conventional coronary angiography is the gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies. Coronary anomalies are relatively rare findings in patients undergoing conventional coronary angiography for suspected obstructive coronary artery disease. Recently, the increasing performance of diagnostic techniques, such as electron beam tomography (EBT), magnetic resonance (MR) and, more recently, multislice computed tomography (MSCT), has enabled their application to cardiac imaging. If they keep tightly adherent to the underlying substrate, they isolate it from the surrounding aggressive atmosphere at high temperature. Apoferritin-encapsulated Ni and Co superparamagnetic nanoparticles

Ni and Co nanoparticles (average diameters 3 and 3.5 nm) have been prepared within the apoferritin cavity. The protein shell prevents bulk aggregation of the metal particles, rendering them water soluble. X-Ray diffraction, transmission electronic microscopy and magnetization measurements have been used for characterizing the nanoparticles. The magnetic study of both nanoparticles confirmed the expected superparamagnetic behavior.

X-ray study of the light-induced metastable state of a spin-crossover compound

Iron(II) complexes exhibiting thermal spin crossover may be converted from the1A1low-spin (LS) state to the5T2high-spin (HS) state by irradiation with green light (light-induced excited spin-state trapping, LIESST). The lifetime of the metastable LIESST state may be sufficiently long for X-ray diffraction study. The lattice parameters of a single crystal of [Fe(ptz)6](BF4)2(ptz = propyltetrazole) were measured between 300 and 10 K, while the crystal changed from the HS to the LS state near 135 K. The LIESST state of [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH – the superstructure under continuous irradiation

The superstructure recently discovered in [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH at temperatures inside the step region of the high-spin–low-spin transition curve sheds new light on the anomalous transition behaviour in spin crossover compounds. The structure of the metastable LIESST state of [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH at 10 K has been measured. The decay has been followed by X-ray diffraction using a CCD camera in order to detect reflections of the superstructure building up during the decay. No signal above the noise of the CCD camera was observed, so that even diffuse scattering could not be detected. Experimental duopolies under price guarantees

In a symmetric differentiated experimental duopoly we test the ability of Price Guarantees (PGs) to raise prices above the competitive levels. Different types of PGs ("aggressive" and "soft" price-beating and price-matching) are implemented either as an exogenously imposed market rule or as a business strategy. Our results show that PGs may lead close to the collusive outcome, depending on whether the interaction between duopolists is repeated and provided that the guarantee is not of the "aggressive" price-beating type.

Deadline-based QoS Algorithms for High-performance Networks

Quality of service (QoS) is becoming an attractive feature for high-performance networks and parallel machines because it could allow a more efficient use of resources. Deadline-based algorithms can provide powerful QoS provision. However, the cost associated with keeping ordered lists of packets makes them impractical for high-performance networks. In this paper, we explore how to adapt efficiently the earliest deadline first family of algorithms to the high-speed networks environments. The results show excellent performance using just two virtual channels, FIFO queues, and a cost feasible with today's technology.
