Photomagnetism of Molecular Systems

2001

This article reviews various classes of transition metal compounds which display in the solid state light sensitive electronic structure modifications accompanied by drastic changes of their magnetic and/or optical properties, i.e., photomagnetism. Selected examples from this rapidly expanding field, include spin crossover, stilbenoid and nitrosyl complexes, as well as Prussian blue analogues.

Theoretical Perspectives and Therapeutic Approaches in Music Therapy with Families

2021

Music therapists have described the importance of working collaboratively with family members in various populations throughout the history of the profession. Despite the growing amount of literature, not enough is known regarding the scope of theoretical perspectives and therapeutic approaches that guide family centered music therapy. The aim of this international survey study was to better understand the professional perspectives and approaches of music therapists who work with families around the world. This article presents the results of the survey where a total of 125 responses were analysed. Participants’ responses indicated that music therapy with families is well established as an …

Secondary Carina and Lobar Bronchi Stenting in Patients with Advanced Lung Cancer: Is It Worth the Effort? A Clinical Experience

2020

Background: The lobar airway stenting remains an endoscopic procedure not well standardized in patients with locally advanced lung cancer disease. The goal of this study was to evaluate technical feasibility, clinical outcome, and complications of different stents in patients with malignant lesions involving lobar bronchi, primary and secondary carina. Methods: Between November 2008 and October 2013, we retrospectively analyzed 146 patients with benign and malignant tracheobronchial stenosis who underwent airway stent insertion below main carina and main bronchi. Results: In all, 170 airway stenting procedures were performed on 146 patients. In all, 51 of them with malignant peripheral airw…

Low-energy epicardial pacing in children: the benefit of autocapture.

1999

Abstract Background . Permanent cardiac pacing in children results commonly in augmented energy consumption because of the high pacing rates and the ample stimulation safety margin applied in children. Cardiovascular anatomy and limited venous access sometimes preclude the otherwise preferred endocardial approach. In this multicenter patient series, we studied the feasibility, safety, and energy saving obtained by a combination of steroid-eluting epicardial leads with autocapture devices capable of ongoing adjustment of the stimulation output to the prevailing threshold. Methods . Autocapture devices (Pacesetter Microny SR+ and Regency SR+; Pacesetter, Solna, Sweden) and steroid-eluting epi…

Assembly 2

2017

Assembly 2, the home of groups “02.01: acute critical care” and “02.02: noninvasive ventilatory support”, is a growing and active assembly within the European Respiratory Society (ERS). The number of members in Assembly 2 is steadily increasing, reaching a total of 846 in 2016. The members of Assembly 2 are young, with up to 40% of the members of Assembly 2 aged <40 years, and scientifically active, with 120 accepted abstracts at the recent ERS International Congress 2106 in London. The overarching aims of Assembly 2 are to promote respiratory intensive care within ERS through educational activities (in conjunction with HERMES (Harmonised Education in Respiratory Medicine for European Speci…

QA of dynamic MLC based on EPID portal dosimetry.

2010

Abstract Purpose Dynamic delivery of intensity modulated beams (dIMRT) requires not only accurate verification of leaf positioning but also a control on the speed of motion. The latter is a parameter that has a major impact on the dose delivered to the patient. Time consumed in quality assurance (QA) procedures is an issue of relevance in any radiotherapy department. Electronic portal imaging dosimetry (EPID) can be very efficient for routine tests. The purpose of this work is to investigate the ability of our EPID for detecting small errors in leaf positioning, and to present our daily QA procedures for dIMRT based on EPID. Paternity Testing Commission of the International Society of Forensic Genetics: recommendations on genetic investigations in paternity cases

2003

The International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG) has established a Paternity Testing Commission (PTC) with the purpose of formulating international recommendations concerning genetic investigations in paternity testing. The PTC recommends that paternity testing be performed in accordance with the ISO 17025 standards. The ISO 17025 standards are general standards for testing laboratories and the PTC offers explanations and recommendations concerning selected areas of special importance to paternity testing. # 2002 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. Magnetic-field-induced anisotropic curvature elasticity of a vesicle membrane containing magnetic polyions

2000

Interaction between a charged membrane and the electrolyte solution containing magnetic polyions is considered. A self-magnetic field, which arises due to the nonhomogeneous magnetic particle distribution near a charged membrane increases the effective charge screening length for the parts of a membrane normal to a magnetic field. The anisotropy of elastic properties of a membrane depending on the screening length is calculated on the basis of the curvature expansion. It is shown that due to diminishing of the spontaneous curvature for the parts of a membrane normal to a magnetic field there are two competing mechanisms of the ferrovesicle shape transformation under the influence of a magne…
