Chemosensory Receptors in the Larval Maxilla of Papilio hospiton

2022

Among the butterflies of the genus Papilio (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae), Papilio hospiton (Géné) has a geographical distribution limited to the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia (Italy) and Corsica (France). This is mainly due to the host range that includes only a few plant species of Apiaceae and Rutaceae growing on these islands. In a previous electrophysiological investigation conducted on the maxillary gustatory system of larvae of P. hospiton and its closely phylogenetically related species Papilio machaon, a significantly higher spike activity was shown for the gustatory neurons of lateral and medial styloconic sensilla in P. hospiton when bitter compounds were tested. This effect was…

From fringe to fringe: the shift from the clericalist League of Polish Families to the anticlericalist Palikot Movement 2001–2015

2017

The period between 2001 and 2015 brought two events in Poland that deserve to be called phenomena. In 2001 the rightist, clericalist League of Polish Families entered the Sejm. Ten years later, the leftist, anticlericalist Palikot Movement achieved spectacular success in the 2011 elections. These events give a picture of a radical shift in the Polish political scene: a rightist clericalist party disappeared from the right flank of the political scene, while a new, leftist-anticlericalist formation appeared. The article makes reference to a set of five explanations on both the causes and consequences (and permanence) of the observed changes. I argue that only a concurrence of a number of com…

Combustion behavior of kraft black liquor droplets from hot water pretreated hardwood and softwood chips

2016

This paper describes the combustion behavior of birch and spruce kraft black liquors obtained from an integrated forest biorefinery concept in which a hot water extraction of chips was performed before pulping. This pretreatment, aiming mainly at the recovery of various hemicellulose-derived materials, increased the concentrations of lignin and hydroxy acids in black liquors, compared with those in the reference black liquors without any process modification. On the other hand, the pretreatment decreased the concentrations of volatile acids and other organics (extractives and hemicellulose residues). Because of these characteristic changes, the total burning times (pyrolysis time plus char …

Wing morphometrics as a possible tool for the diagnosis of the Ceratitis fasciventris, C. anonae, C. rosa complex (Diptera, Tephritidae)

2015

Abstract Previous attempts to resolve the Ceratitis FAR complex (Ceratitis fasciventris, Ceratitis anonae, Ceratitis rosa, Diptera, Tephritidae) showed contrasting results and revealed the occurrence of five microsatellite genotypic clusters (A, F1, F2, R1, R2). In this paper we explore the potential of wing morphometrics for the diagnosis of FAR morphospecies and genotypic clusters. We considered a set of 227 specimens previously morphologically identified and genotyped at 16 microsatellite loci. Seventeen wing landmarks and 6 wing band areas were used for morphometric analyses. Permutational multivariate analysis of variance detected significant differences both across morphospecies and g…

Commutators, C0-semigroups and resolvent estimates

2004

Abstract We study the existence and the continuity properties of the boundary values on the real axis of the resolvent of a self-adjoint operator H in the framework of the conjugate operator method initiated by Mourre. We allow the conjugate operator A to be the generator of a C 0 -semigroup (finer estimates require A to be maximal symmetric) and we consider situations where the first commutator [ H ,i A ] is not comparable to H . The applications include the spectral theory of zero mass quantum field models.

Influence of Metal Dilution on the Light‐Induced Spin Transition in Two 1D Chain Compounds: [Fe x Zn 1– x (btzp) 3 ](BF 4 ) 2 and [Fe x Zn 1– x (endi…

2008

The thermal and light-induced spin transitions in [FexZn1–x(btzp)3](BF4)2 and [FexZn1–x(endi)3](BF4)2 {btzp = 1,2-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)propane; endi = 1,2-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)ethane} chain compounds have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility, photomagnetism and diffuse reflectivity measurements. These compounds display a thermal spin transition and the Light-Induced Excited Spin State Trapping (LIESST) effect at low temperature. For each compound, the thermal spin transition temperature, T1/2, and the relaxation temperature of the photo-induced high-spin state, T(LIESST), have been systematically determined. A decrease in T1/2 induces an increase in T(LIESST). The results are discussed an…

Spin-crossover in the [Fe(abpt)2(NCX)2] (X=S, Se) system: Structural, Magnetic, calorimetric and photomagnetic studies

1999

[EN] The compounds [Fe(abpt)(2)(NCS)(2)] (1) and [Fe(abpt)(2)(NCSe)(2)] (2) with abpt = 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole have been synthesized. The X-ray structures have been determined at 293 K. 1 and 2 are isostructural and crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with Z = 2, a = 8.538(8), b = 10.246(8), c = 16.45(2) Angstrom, beta = 93.98(9)degrees for 1 and a = 8.623(2), b = 10.243(3), c = 16.585(3) Angstrom, beta = 93.19(2)degrees for 2. In both complexes, the coordination core has a similar pseudo-octahedral geometry with the NCS- (1) and NCSe- (2) groups in the trans-position. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data give evidence for a low-spin (LS)high…

Does the solid-liquid crystal phase transition provoke the spin-state change in spin-crossover metallomesogens?

2008

Three types of interplay/synergy between spin-crossover (SCO) and liquid crystalline (LC) phase transitions can be predicted: (i) systems with coupled phase transitions, where the structural changes associated to the Cr LC phase transition drives the spin-state transition, (ii) systems where both transitions coexist in the same temperature region but are not coupled, and (iii) systems with uncoupled phase transitions. Here we present a new family of Fe(II) metallomesogens based on the ligand tris[3-aza-4-((5-C(n))(6-R)(2-pyridyl))but-3-enyl]amine, with C(n) = hexyloxy, dodecyloxy, hexadecyloxy, octadecyloxy, eicosyloxy, R = hydrogen or methyl (C(n)-trenH or C(n)-trenMe), which affords examp…

Correlations of the distribution of spin states in spin crossover compounds

1999

Abstract Short range correlations of the distribution of high spin (HS) and low spin (LS) states show up in thermal spin transition curves, decay curves of the light induced metastable HS state (LIESST state), and in structural features during the spin transitions. Correlations are due to short range interactions between the spin crossover molecules. Short range interactions may compete with omnipresent long range interactions and give rise to interesting spin transition phenomena. In this paper, the effect of correlations on the thermal spin transition in the mixed crystal system [Fe x Zn 1− x (pic) 3 ]Cl 2 ·EtOH (pic=picolylamine) is discussed. In particular the step in the thermal transi…
