Pressure-Induced High Spin State in [Fe(btr)2(NCS)2]·H2O (btr = 4,4′-bis-1,2,4-triazole)

Application of hydrostatic pressure (≤ 10.5 kbar) on the two-dimensional spin transition compound [Fe(btr)2(NCS)2]·H2O (btr = 4,4‘-bis-1,2,4-triazole) results in an unexpected stabilization of the HS state. On release of the pressure, the HS state is found to be partially trapped. After thermal relaxation of the metastable HS state obtained by the LIESST effect (light-induced excited spin state trapping), a pure LS state is obtained in contrast to the pressure experiments. This different behavior supports a structural phase transition as the likely basis of the pressure-induced HS state.

Effect of metal dilution on the light-induced spin transition in [FexZn1-x(phen)2(NCS)2] (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)

International audience; The thermal and light-induced spin transitions in [FexZn1-x(phen)2(NCS)2] (phen = 1,10-phenantholine) have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility, photomagnetism and diffuse reflectivity measurements. These complexes display a thermal spin transition and undergo the light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST) effect at low temperatures. For each compound, the thermal spin transition temperature, T1/2, and the relaxation temperature of the photo-induced high-spin state, T(LIESST), have been systematically determined. The crystal structure of the complex [{Fe(bt)(NCS)(2)}(2)bpym] (1) (bt=2,2'-bithiazoline, bpym=2,2'-bipyrimidine) has been solved at 293, 240, 175 and 30 K. At all four temperatures the crystal remains in the P space group with a=8.7601(17), b=9.450(2), c=12.089(3) A, alpha=72.77(2), beta=79.150(19), gamma=66.392(18) degrees , V=873.1(4) Angstrom(3) (data for 293 K structure). The structure consists of centrosymmetric dinuclear units in which each iron(II) atom is coordinated by two NCS(-) ions in the cis position and two nitrogen atoms of the bridging bpym ligand, with the remaining positions occupied by the peripheral bt ligand. Critical temperature of the LIESST effect in iron(II) spin crossover compounds

Abstract The light-induced crossover in a series of iron(II) compounds has been investigated by irradiating the sample at 10 K with a Kr + laser coupled to an optical fiber within a SQUID cavity. The temperature dependence of the molar fraction of the light-induced metastable HS state has been recorded for 22 compounds. The critical LIESST temperature, T c (LIESST), has been defined as the temperature for which the light-induced HS information was erased in the SQUID cavity. Interactions between flavor compounds and food ingredients and their influence on flavor perception

Interactions between flavor compounds and food ingredients are reviewed and their influence on flavor perception is discussed. Proteins are known to bind flavor compounds. For β-lactoglobulin, the most-studied example, hydrophobic interactions with volatiles are described. The effect of the medium on the conformation of the protein and its ability to bind flavor compounds is discussed. In general, the retention of volatiles by protein is much lower than that by fat. In emulsions, however, the presence of protein at the oil/water interface induces a significant effect on flavor release and flavor perception of hydrophobic flavor compounds. Integrable Hamiltonian systems with swallowtails

International audience; We consider two-degree-of-freedom integrable Hamiltonian systems with bifurcation diagrams containing swallowtail structures. The global properties of the action coordinates in such systems together with the parallel transport of the period lattice and corresponding quantum cells in the joint spectrum are described in detail. The relation to the concept of bidromy which was introduced in Sadovski´ı and Zhilinski´ı (2007 Ann. Phys. 322 164–200) is discussed.

Cooperative effects on the HS→LS relaxation in the [Fe(ptz)6](BF4)2 spin-crossover system

Abstract The high-spin to low-spin (HS→LS) relaxation in the [Fe(ptz) 6 ](BF 4 ) 2 spin-crossover system deviates strongly from first-order kinetics because of cooperative effects of elastic origin. The shift in horizontal and vertical displacement of the potential wells of the initial and final state relative to each other due to the build-up of an “internal” pressure is estimated from spectroscopic measurements. The HS→LS relaxation as such is described by the theory of nonadiabatic multiphonon relaxation in the strong-coupling limit, with a Huang—Rhys factor S ≈ 45 which is much larger than the reduced energy gap p .
