Hemoglobin point-of-care testing: the HemoCue system.

2013

Besides the use of traditional laboratory resources, the diagnosis of anemia can also be accomplished by assessing hemoglobin (Hb) concentration with point-of-care testing (POCT) devices such as the HemoCue test systems. In several situations, these devices might suitably replace traditional laboratory testing, including several areas of health care where a very rapid Hb measurement might be required to make immediate therapeutic decisions. The use of these devices, however, should fulfill some basic criteria, including economic, clinical, and regulatory issues; appropriate training of the users and knowledge of test requirements, performance, limitations, and potential interferences; the u…

Re-exposure in cone beam CT of the dentomaxillofacial region: a retrospective study.

2018

Cone beam CT (CBCT) often uses a smaller field of view compared to conventional CT scans. This might lead to a wrong field of view with the need for secondary exposure (“retakes”). The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess the frequency of re-exposures in CBCT and to identify whether the parameters age, gender, and field of view have an influence on the re-exposure of the patient. Additionally, the causes of re-exposures were determined and categorized. METHODS: In a retrospective cohort study CBCT images of 4986 patients from the patient database from the Department of Oral Radiology, University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany were included a…

Research on macrolepidoptera species (Insecta: Lepidoptera) collected in Dumbrava Sibului Forest (Romania) in conditions of the year 2011 and their s…

2012

Macrolepidoptera fauna of Sibiu and its surroundings is studied for over 124 years by the naturalists Saxons. The collected material is preserved in the form of individual collections at the Natural History Museum in Sibiu. In addition to our material collected by us since 2001, data from these collections were a valuable documentary material for the present work. Our considerations on Macrolepidoptera flight periods are based on research conducted during the year 2011 from March to November in the protected area Dumbrava Sibiului. The natural conditions and the characteristics of the investigated area were revealed in several previous articles that could be found in the reference list. Thi…

2011

Currently, fauna and ecological analysis of the landscape in which the reserves and Forest "Dumbrava Sibiu" shows a great scientific interest and practical for biological research in Sibiu. The results can contribute substantially to assessing the state of the world of insects and their evolution in the ecosystem studied, but also to establish their quantitative and qualitative changes over time. In the present work was studied the Lepidoptera collection of Transylvania Dr. Daniel Czekelius, and the paper presents a systematic list of species collected Macrolepidoptere since 1888-1929 in Forest "Dumbrava Sibiu".This paper can be considered a tribute and memory of Dr.Daniel Czekelius entomol…

Fe(II) spin crossover complexes of a derivative of 2,6-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (1-bpp) functionalized with a carboxylic acid in the 3-pyridyl posit…

2019

Abstract The preparation of a new bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (1-bpp) derivative functionalized with a carboxylic acid in the 3-pyridyl position, bpp3-COOH ligand is reported together with the structure and spin-crossover (SCO) properties of [FeII(bpp3-COOH)2](ClO4)2·0.5EtOH·0.5H2O (1). Magnetic properties of 1 indicate that LS is favored. Desolvation leads to a gradual and incomplete SCO. Solvated and desolvated compounds show LIESST effect.

2018

International audience; Four new salts of the iron(II) complex of the 2,6-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine ligand functionalized with a carboxylic acid group (bppCOOH) of formulas [Fe(bppCOOH)2](BF4)2 (1(BF4)2), [Fe(bppCOOH)2](CF3SO3)2·yMe2CO (1(CF3SO3)2·yMe2CO), [Fe(bppCOOH)2](AsF6)2·yMe2CO (1(AsF6)2·yMe2CO) and [Fe(bppCOOH)2](SbF6)2·yMe2CO (1(SbF6)2·yMe2CO) have been prepared and characterized together with a more complete structural and photomagnetic characterization of the previously reported [Fe(bppCOOH)2](ClO4)2 (1(ClO4)2). Furthermore, the iron(II) complex of the ethyl ester derivative of bppCOOH (bppCOOEt) has been prepared and characterized (compound [Fe(bppCOOEt)2](ClO4)2·yMe2CO, 2(ClO4)…

The ultrasounds-ionic liquids synergy on the copper catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition between phenyl acetylene and 4-azidoquinoline

2015

Abstract The effect of ultrasound irradiation on the copper catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition between phenylacetylene and 4-azidoquinoline has been studied in solution of different ionic liquids. In particular, we used ionic liquids featuring both aliphatic and aromatic mono- and dications, as well as anions differing in size, symmetry and coordination ability. We also examined the influence of the ionic liquids structural features on the reaction outcomes, finding that under magnetic stirring reactivity is favorably affected by the solvent structural organization, while under sonochemical conditions an opposite trend was observed. In all cases examined, sonochemical activation leads to …

Increased sulfate availability in saline water promotes hydrogen sulfide production in fish organic waste

2020

The risk of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production can be a challenge in marine land-based recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic gas that can cause massive fish mortality even at low concentrations, and in addition, serious odour problems in the surroundings. It is a bacterial by-product originating from the degradation of organic matter in sulfur-rich waters such as marine waters. In order to hinder H2S production in marine land-based RAS, more information on the H2S production conditions and the associated microbiology is needed. In this study, the production of H2S from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) organic waste was examined using a novel H2S measurement …

Native and modified alumina, titania and zirconia in normal and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography

1996

Chromatographic properties of silica, alumina, titania and zirconia have been investigated in normal phase mode in the separation of test mixtures of basic, neutral and acidic compounds. In contrast to silica the chromatographic behaviour revealed the basic properties of the alumina, titania and zirconia surfaces. Therefore, separation of basic compounds on these packings seems very promising. Lypophilic packings have been synthesized by modification of titania, zirconia and alumina with organosilanes and polymers and tested for the separation of basic compounds and proteins. High hydrolytic stability of the modified packings was observed during separations with strong alkali and acidic elu…
