Trajectories of life satisfaction and the financial situation in the transition to adulthood
2013
The aims of this study were (1) to investigate young adults’ life satisfaction changes during the transition to adulthood, (2) to identify possible life satisfaction developmental trajectories during the transition, and (3) to examine how individuals’ agency and personal financial situations are related to the identified life satisfaction trajectories in the contexts of life-span and life course theories of development. Predicting life satisfaction in Angolan elderly: the moderating effect of gender
2014
Fringed Life Satisfaction? A Life-Course Perspective on the Impact of International Migration on Subjective Well-Being
2018
This chapter investigates the role of personal life events in changing levels of life satisfaction and tries to contrast migrants to native population in this respect. Marriage, divorce, separation, widowhood, and having children are considered as potential triggers for differential transformations of migrant lives as compared to non-migrant. The main assumption relies on the increased uncertainty and destandardization of migrant life course, given their spatial mobility that disrupts stages of traditional life cycle. The findings from the panel data obtained from German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP; Germany), collected during more than three decades, reveal higher sensitivity of migrants to…
Longitudinal analysis of subjective well-being in preadolescents: The role of emotional intelligence, self-esteem and perceived stress
2020
Subjective wellbeing has been conceptualized as a person’s cognitive and affective evaluation of their life. In this line, life satisfaction and somatic complaints may be outstanding indicators of well-being. Participants were 381 pupils aged 12–16 years (56.1% female). Hierarchical regression models and a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) were conducted. Trait emotional intelligence, self-esteem and low perceived stress were related in the expected direction to life satisfaction and somatic complaints. Findings support …
Predicting adolescent adjustment and well-being: The interplay between socio-emotional and personal factors
2019
Social and emotional factors such as emotional competence and self-esteem are protective factors that promote adolescent mental health and well-being. The study included 840 adolescents aged between 12 and 16 years old (M = 13.37, SD = 1.16, 51.4% girls). We measured personal variables (sex, age, number of siblings), socio-emotional variables (emotional competence and self-esteem), psychological adjustment (emotional and behavioural problems) and subjective well-being (life satisfact…

Family-supportive organization perceptions, multiple dimensions of work–family conflict, and employee satisfaction : a test of model across five samp…
2008
Work-family conflict (WFC) is recognized as a major issue affecting both individual employees and their employers. Preliminary research shows that the more employees perceive their work environment as family-supportive, the less they experience WFC (Allen, 2001). Moreover, there are theoretical and empirical reasons to expect that by reducing WFC, a family-supportive work environment would enhance employees’ satisfaction with their job, family, and life in general. In addition, despite the impressive body of research that has been devoted to WFC, there have been few studies that have assessed WFC as a multidimensional construct, other than those that distinguish between directions of confli…
