A Study of the Direct Spectral Transform for the Defocusing Davey‐Stewartson II Equation the Semiclassical Limit

2019

International audience; The defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation has been shown in numerical experiments to exhibit behavior in the semiclassical limit that qualitatively resembles that of its one-dimensional reduction, the defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation, namely the generation from smooth initial data of regular rapid oscillations occupying domains of space-time that become well-defined in the limit. As a first step to studying this problem analytically using the inverse scattering transform, we consider the direct spectral transform for the defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation for smooth initial data in the semiclassical limit. The direct spectral transform involves a sing…

Parasite infection alters host stable-isotope composition under controlled feeding

2016

1) Stable isotopes are widely used for studying trophic relationships, but variation driven by environmental conditions or food availability complicates the interpretation of trophic dynamics. Parasites are ubiquitous and known to affect physiological functions of their hosts, but only few studies have assessed the effects of parasites on isotope composition of hosts. 2) We measured the changes in two of the most commonly used stable isotopes in food-web studies, nitrogen (i.e. 15N:14N ratio; denoted as δ15N) and carbon (13C:12C; δ13C) in Daphnia hosts exposed to infection by a parasitic micosporidian in the laboratory. Isotopic signatures of hosts fed a standardised controlled diet were co…

Some Applications of the Poincaré-Bendixson Theorem

2021

We consider a C 1 vector field X defined on an open subset U of the plane, with compact closure. If X has no singular points and if U is simply connected, a weak version of the Poincaré-Bendixson Theorem says that the limit sets of X in U are empty but that one can defined non empty extended limit sets contained into the boundary of U. We give an elementary proof of this result, independent of the classical Poincaré-Bendixson Theorem. A trapping triangle T based at p, for a C 1 vector field X defined on an open subset U of the plane, is a topological triangle with a corner at a point p located on the boundary ∂U and a good control of the tranversality of X along the sides. The principal app…

"Table 12: Cross-section limits lepton specific tanb 1" of "Search for a heavy Higgs boson decaying into a $Z$ boson and another heavy Higgs boson in…

2018

The cross section times BR(A->ZH) times BR(H->bb) limits for an A boson in the lepton specific, tanbeta 1, 2HDM. For each signal point, characterised by the mass pair (mA, mH), two limits are provided, the observed and the expected. The correct width as predicted by this particular parameter choice of the 2HDM is used. For lepton specific only gluon-gluon fusion is used and the nb=2 category only.

SAMSLAM: Simulated Annealing Monocular SLAM

2013

This paper proposes a novel monocular SLAM approach. For a triplet of successive keyframes, the approach inteleaves the registration of the three 3D maps associated to each image pair in the triplet and the refinement of the corresponding poses, by progressively limiting the allowable reprojection error according to a simulated annealing scheme. This approach computes only local overlapping maps of almost constant size, thus avoiding problems of 3D map growth. It does not require global optimization, loop closure and back-correction of the poses.

Automatic crack detection results using a novel device for survey and analysis of road pavement condition

2019

To accurately schedule maintenance operations, it is crucial to monitor the pavement state and, thus, evaluate the structural and functional indices during its entire service life. In particular, surface conditions (cracks, potholes, patches, rutting, etc.) must be properly checked – especially in terms of detection, identification, and classification of distresses – for avoiding reaching dangerous values for users (overpassing safety thresholds). However, monitoring and survey activities can be so costly (not only in economic terms, but further considering the execution time) to discourage their execution, with evident drawbacks for a proper maintenance management and the related intervent…

Minimality via second variation for microphase separation of diblock copolymer melts

2017

Abstract We consider a non-local isoperimetric problem arising as the sharp interface limit of the Ohta–Kawasaki free energy introduced to model microphase separation of diblock copolymers. We perform a second order variational analysis that allows us to provide a quantitative second order minimality condition. We show that critical configurations with positive second variation are indeed strict local minimizers of the problem. Moreover, we provide, via a suitable quantitative inequality of isoperimetric type, an estimate of the deviation from minimality for configurations close to the minimum in the L 1 {L^{1}} -topology.
