IL CONFINE POROSO. Riverberi nelle Terre Dormienti di Cipro
2020
2013
Since the 19th century, many proposals have been made regarding the boundaries of the territory of the civitas Aeduorum. Although there is general agreement on many geographic sectors, there are still major discrepancies of opinion, principally in the regions of Autissiodurum / Auxerre and Alesia. The religious epigraphy of the Early Empire, in particular the use of a specific formulary, seems to demonstrate a single religious (and political) community in these regions, which would thus have all belonged to the civitas Aeduorum in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
Simple method for limiting delay of optimized interleavers for turbo-codes
2000
An iterative interleaver growth algorithm is extended to allow the delay and required memory of designed interleavers to be halved with negligible performance loss. The original algorithm is efficient for two-component parallel concatenated turbo-codes with given constituent encoders that are optimum with regard to a cost function satisfying some mild conditions. However, it is only actually optimum if the selected set of patterns is representative of low-weight turbo-codewords. The new interleaver uses all terminating error patterns having an input weight not greater than a fixed IWX and single-coder output weight not greater than WX is proposed.
Quantitative determination of trichothecenes in breadsticks by gas chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry.
2014
Breadsticks are pencil-sized sticks of dry bread widely consumed as a pre-meal appetiser. They are basically wheat-based snacks, which makes them a good matrix to evaluate mycotoxin contamination, since wheat is very susceptible to fungal attack. In this sense, the fast, selective and sensitive gas chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (GCQqQ- MS/MS) method proposed here allows simultaneous determination of deoxynivalenol (DON), 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, fusarenon-X, diacetoxyscirpenol, nivalenol, neosolaniol, HT-2 and T-2 toxin in breadsticks after QuEChERS extraction and clean-up. The performance of the method was assessed with respect to European Commission Regulations …
Speciation of methylmercury in market seafood by thermal degradation, amalgamation and atomic absorption spectroscopy
2014
Sample thermal decomposition followed by mercury amalgamation and atomic absorption has been employed for the determination of methylmercury (MeHg) in fish. The method involves HBr leaching of MeHg, extraction into toluene, and back-extraction into an aqueous l-cysteine solution. Preliminary studies were focused on the extraction efficiency, losses, contaminations, and species interconversion prevention. The limit of detection was 0.018µgg(-1) (dry weight). The intraday precision for three replicate analysis at a concentration of 4.2µgg(-1) (dry weight) was 3.5 percent, similar to the interday precision according to analysis of variance (ANOVA). The accuracy was guaranteed by the use of for…
Perceived Benefit From Hearing Aid Use and Life-Space Mobility Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults
2018
Objectives: To examine the association between perceived benefit from hearing aid (HA) use and life-space mobility among older adults. Method: Cross-sectional analysis of 76- to 91-year-old community-dwelling adults ( n = 702). Data on perceived hearing with and without a HA were obtained via postal questionnaire and data on life-space mobility (Life-Space Assessment, range = 0-120) via phone interview. Results: Participants who perceived more benefit from HA use, had a better life-space mobility score ( M = 65, SD = 2.6) than participants who had less benefit from using a HA ( M = 55, SD = 3.2). Participants who benefitted more from HA use did not differ from those who did not have a HA (…
Characterizing mortality effects of particulate matter size fractions in the two capital cities of the Canary Islands
2010
Most of the studies differentiating the effect of size-classified particulate matter (PM) exposure have been carried out in cities where the average levels of fine particles (PM2.5) were higher than those of coarse particles (PM10-2.5). These studies have suggested that PM2.5 is associated with daily mortality, but there is only limited evidence that PM10-2.5 is independently associated with mortality. The citizens of the Canary Islands are exposed to PM which is highly influenced by mineral dust because of the islands' proximity to the Western Coast of Morocco. This offers an excellent opportunity to analyze in detail the short-term association between PM size fractions and total, respirat…
Il cuore e la ragione secondo Pascal
2018
Il saggio riflette sulla dottrina pascaliana del cuore, centro della fede e del pensiero.
Il cuore e la critica della ragione. Ripartire da Laporte
2018
The author presents the Italian translation of the text by Jean Laporte "Le coeur et la raison selon Pascal", identifying in the hearth a critic instance of reason. This reflection is conducted through the reference to the work of Jean Luc Marion in his essay on Negative Certainties.
Evaluation of in-farm versus weather station data for use as heat stress indicator in dairy sheep
2005
AbstractHeat stress is a limiting factor in dairy production in hot climates impairing growth, milk production and reproduction. The most widely investigated climatic factors related with heat stress are: air temperature and relative humidity. Previously dairy sheep studies of heat tolerance depended on measurements of physiological functions on individual animals such as rectal temperatures, respiration rates or volumes of air inhaled; unfortunately, such measurements are costly and not feasible on a large scale. This study aims to evaluate in-farm (IF) versus weather station (WS) data to be used as heat stress indicator in dairy sheep. Data were collected in three farms in November 2002 t…
