Cavity optomechanics mediated by a quantum two-level system
2015
Coupling electromagnetic waves in a cavity and mechanical vibrations via the radiation pressure of photons is a promising platform for investigations of quantum–mechanical properties of motion. A drawback is that the effect of one photon tends to be tiny, and hence one of the pressing challenges is to substantially increase the interaction strength. A novel scenario is to introduce into the setup a quantum two-level system (qubit), which, besides strengthening the coupling, allows for rich physics via strongly enhanced nonlinearities. Here we present a design of cavity optomechanics in the microwave frequency regime involving a Josephson junction qubit. We demonstrate boosting of the radiat…

The Antinomy of Hospitality and The Double Imperative
2017
The purpose of this paper is to develop, on the basis of the comparison that Derrida engages with Kant on hospitality, some remarks on Kant’s concept of reason, and to show how the “right to visit”, in which space Kant de nes cosmopolitan right, implies a radical openness to the needs of the other, which Kant places at the heart of the concept of reason and which decides, therefore, the way each of us, as a man, can be said to be rational. Rationality and hospitality are placed on the same edge in the re ection of J. Derrida, who radicalizes the link between responsibility and practical reason and transforms the Kantian ‘Du sollst, also kannst du auch’ into an aporia, a term that does not i…
Subject, World and Value
2010
Comparison between sodium dodecylsulphate and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as mobile phases in the micellar liquid chromatography determination of …
2004
The retention behaviour of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) using micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) is studied and compared with that observed with micellar mobile phases of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). A liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of acemetacin, diclofenac, indomethacin, ketoprofen, naproxen and tolmetin in pharmaceutical preparations is described. The proposed system uses a Kromasil C18 analytical column and a solution of 0.15 M SDS at pH 3 with 10% 1-propanol as mobile phase. Under these conditions, the studied NSAIDs elute between 6 and 10 min at a 1 mL min(-1) flow rate. Limits of detection (LOD) are lower than 0.…
Erratum: “Searches for Gravitational Waves from Known Pulsars at Two Harmonics in 2015–2017 LIGO Data” (2019, ApJ, 879, 10)
2019
Two analysis errors have been identified that affect the results for a handful of the high-value pulsars given in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). One affects the Bayesian analysis for the five pulsars that glitched during the analysis period, and the other affects the 5n-vector analysis for J0711-6830. Updated results after correcting the errors are shown in Table 1, which now supersedes the results given for those pulsars in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). Updated versions of figures can be seen in Figures 1-4. Bayesian analysis.-For the glitching pulsars, the signal phase evolution caused by the glitch was wrongly applied twice and was therefore not consistent with our expected model of…
Predicting the structure and vibrational frequencies of ethylene using harmonic and anharmonic approaches at the Kohn–Sham complete basis set limit
2016
In this work, regular convergence patterns of the structural, harmonic, and VPT2-calculated anharmonic vibrational parameters of ethylene towards the Kohn–Sham complete basis set (KS CBS) limit are demonstrated for the first time. The performance of the VPT2 scheme implemented using density functional theory (DFT-BLYP and DFT-B3LYP) in combination with two Pople basis sets (6-311++G** and 6-311++G(3df,2pd)), the polarization-consistent basis sets pc-n, aug-pc-n, and pcseg-n (n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4), and the correlation-consistent basis sets cc-pVXZ and aug-cc-pVXZ (X = D, T, Q, 5, 6) was tested. The BLYP-calculated harmonic frequencies were found to be markedly closer than the B3LYP-calculated h…
Image Quality Assessment Based on Intrinsic Mode Function Coefficients Modeling
2011
Reduced reference image quality assessment (RRIQA) methods aim to assess the quality of a perceived image with only a reduced cue from its original version, called ”reference image”. The powerful advantage of RR methods is their ”General-purpose”. However, most introduced RR methods are built upon a non-adaptive transform models. This can limit the scope of RR methods to a small number of distortion types. In this work, we propose a bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition-based RRIQA method. First, we decompose both, reference and distorted images, into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMF), then we use the Generalized Gaussian Density (GGD) to model IMF coefficients. Finally, the distortion m…
The 4th international comparison on EPR dosimetry with tooth enamel: Part 1: Report on the results
2011
This paper presents the results of the 4th International Comparison of in vitro electron paramagnetic resonance dosimetry with tooth enamel, where the performance parameters of tooth enamel dosimetry methods were compared among sixteen laboratories from all over the world. The participating laboratories were asked to determine a calibration curve with a set of tooth enamel powder samples provided by the organizers. Nine molar teeth extracted following medical indication from German donors and collected between 1997 and 2007 were prepared and irradiated at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. Five out of six samples were irradiated at 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 Gy air kerma; and one unirradiated s…
Morphometry of microstromatolites in calcrete laminar crusts and a fractal model of their growth
1996
The laminar crust, constituting the upper part of calcretes (terrestrial CaCO3 accumulations inside surficial sediments), is a succession of thin layers of various colors and shapes resembling micro-stromatolites. The crust structure and its diagenetic evolution are similar to stromatolites. A quantitative study of its structure was made using image analysis. Euclidian parameters were calculated to describe lamina shape. Eight hundred and eighty-six laminae were divided into six classes from the flatest forms to columnar shapes. The geometrical relationships between the shapes are interpreted as steps in the growth process of the microstromatolite. A fractal model of laminar crust growth wa…
