Immunochemical method for penthiopyrad detection through thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of monoclonal antibodies.

2021

Immunoassays are nowadays being employed for rapid contaminant analysis in clinical, environmental, and agrochemical samples. A thorough characterization of the antibody‒antigen interaction can bring light to the immunoreagent selection process in order to develop sensitive and robust tests. Thus, determination of equilibrium and reaction rate constants is usually recommendable. However, this can be quite tricky for low molecular weight compounds, and competitive strategies are commonly followed to estimate apparent affinity values. In the present study, a collection of monoclonal antibodies to penthiopyrad was raised for the first time, and apparent equilibrium constants were assessed by t…

Introduction

2017

The book is devoted to three key questions concerning the relationship between complexity and natural language. Briefly, such questions are: (a) What kind of complexity for natural language? (b) Which theory of language in the perspective of complexity? (c) What sorts of methods and models in the analysis of the observed phenomena? All the essays in this volume show the reference to complexity as a constant element. However, the use of the singular may not be entirely appropriate.

Modelling of Systems with a Dispersed Phase: “Measuring” Small Sets in the Presence of Elliptic Operators

2016

When modelling systems with a dispersed phase involving elliptic operators, as is the case of the Stokes or Navier-Stokes problem or the heat equation in a bounded domain, the geometrical structure of the space occupied by the dispersed phase enters in the homogenization process through its capacity, a quantity which can be used to define the equivalence classes in \(H^1\). We shall review the relationship between capacity and homogenization terms in the limit when the number of inclusions becomes large, focusing in particular on the situation where the distribution of inclusions is not necessarily too regular (i.e. it is not periodic).

The Heisenberg dynamics of spin systems: A quasi*‐algebras approach

1996

The problem of the existence of the thermodynamical limit of the algebraic dynamics for a class of spin systems is considered in the framework of a generalized algebraic approach in terms of a special class of quasi*-algebras, called CQ*-algebras. Physical applications to (almost) mean-field models and to bubble models are discussed. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Il legittimo affidamento nel bilanciamento della Corte costituzionale e della Corte europea dei diritti dell'uomo in materia di retroattività legisla…

2018

The chapter examines the Constitutional Court's jurisprudence on legislative retroactivity, which is compared to the jurisprudential direction of the European Court of Human Rights. In particular, it is concerned with assessing the compatibility of retroactive laws to the so-called right to peaceful enjoyment of property, referred to in the European Convention on Human Rights.

Two-Length-Scale Structure in Some Computer-Generated Aggregates Grown by Diffusion-Limited Aggregation

1994

AbstractThe properties of some aggregates “grown” on a computer by diffusion-limited aggregation have been investigated. Calculations showed that the intensity of the small-angle x-ray and neutron scattering from the aggregates was proportional to q−D for qL ≫ 1, where D > 0, L is a length that characterizes the large-scale structure of the aggregate, q = 4πλ−1 sin(θ/2), γ is the wavelength, and θ is the scattering angle. The magnitude of the exponent D was appreciably smaller than the fractal dimensions that many simulations have shown to be typical of the mass fractal aggregates grown by diffusion-limited aggregation. The calculations suggest that the aggregates have structure on two d…

Agreement of predicted intraocular lens power using swept-source optical coherence tomography and partial coherence interferometry

2021

PURPOSE To analyze the agreement of the predicted intraocular lens (IOL) power obtained with ANTERION, IOLMaster 700 and Pentacam AXL biometers. METHODS We calculated the monofocal and trifocal IOL power using the SRK/T, Haigis, Barrett Universal II and Hoffer Q formulas for 106 eyes. IOL power agreement between devices was evaluated using the Bland-Altman method. RESULTS We found significant differences between biometers comparisons (p  0.05), with the same outcomes for medium- and long-eyes. No significant differences were found using the SRK/T, Haigis, or Hoffer Q formulas for short-eyes (p > 0.1). However, Barrett Universal II formula produced significant differences (p < 0.05) and thes…

Behavioral profile of intermittent vs continuous access to a high fat diet during adolescence

2018

Abstract Over the past few years, the effects of a high-fat diet (HFD) on cognitive functions have been broadly studied as a model of obesity, although no studies have evaluated whether these effects are maintained after the cessation of this diet. In addition, the behavioral effects of having a limited access to an HFD (binge-eating pattern) are mostly unknown, although they dramatically increase the vulnerability to drug use in contrast to having continuous access. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare the effects of an intermittent versus a continuous exposure to an HFD during adolescence on cognition and anxiety-like behaviors, as well as to study the changes observed after …

Image boundaries detection: from thresholding to implicit curve evolution

2014

The development of high dimensional large-scale imaging devices increases the need of fast, robust and accurate image segmentation methods. Due to its intrinsic advantages such as the ability to extract complex boundaries, while handling topological changes automatically, the level set method (LSM) has been widely used in boundaries detection. Nevertheless, their computational complexity limits their use for real time systems. Furthermore, most of the LSMs share the limit of leading very often to a local minimum, while the effectiveness of many computer vision applications depends on the whole image boundaries. In this paper, using the image thresholding and the implicit curve evolution fra…
