Tensor Network Annealing Algorithm for Two-Dimensional Thermal States

2019

Tensor network methods have become a powerful class of tools to capture strongly correlated matter, but methods to capture the experimentally ubiquitous family of models at finite temperature beyond one spatial dimension are largely lacking. We introduce a tensor network algorithm able to simulate thermal states of two-dimensional quantum lattice systems in the thermodynamic limit. The method develops instances of projected entangled pair states and projected entangled pair operators for this purpose. It is the key feature of this algorithm to resemble the cooling down of the system from an infinite temperature state until it reaches the desired finite-temperature regime. As a benchmark we …

Rogue wave statistics from a noise-like-pulse laser

2014

We report on experimental conditions in a fiber ring laser where noise-like pulse emission fulfills the rogue wave criteria. We highlight the role of dispersion, and use the dispersive Fourier-transform method to study spectral fluctuations.

Hydrodynamic description of the adiabatic piston.

2006

A closed macroscopic equation for the motion of the two-dimensional adiabatic piston is derived from standard hydrodynamics. It predicts a damped oscillatory motion of the piston towards a final rest position, which depends on the initial state. In the limit of large piston mass, the solution of this equation is in quantitative agreement with the results obtained from both hard disk molecular dynamics and hydrodynamics. The explicit forms of the basic characteristics of the piston's dynamics, such as the period of oscillations and the relaxation time, are derived. The limitations of the theory's validity, in terms of the main system parameters, are established.

Search for long-lived charged massive particles with the D0 detector

2009

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T20:51:12Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2009-04-22 Science and Technology Facilities Council We search for long-lived charged massive particles using 1.1fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp̄ Collider. Time-of-flight information is used to search for pair produced long-lived tau sleptons, gauginolike charginos, and Higgsino-like charginos. We find no evidence of a signal and set 95% C.L. cross section upper limits for staus, which vary from 0.31 to 0.04 pb for stau masses between 60 and 300 GeV. We also set lower mass limits of 206 GeV (171 GeV) for pair produced charged gauginos (Higgsinos). © 2009 Th…

Search for New Physics with a Dijet Plus MissingETSignature inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2010

We present results of a signature-based search for new physics using a dijet plus missing transverse energy (E{sub T}) data sample collected in 2 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe no significant event excess with respect to the standard model prediction and extract a 95% C.L. upper limit on the cross section times acceptance for a potential contribution from a non-standard model process. Based on this limit the mass of a potential first or second generation scalar leptoquark is constrained to be above 187 GeV/c{sup 2}.

Measurements of the Absolute Branching Fractions of B± →k±Xc c

2020

A study of the two-body decays B±→XccK±, where Xcc refers to one charmonium state, is reported by the BABAR Collaboration using a data sample of 424 fb-1. The absolute determination of branching fractions for these decays are significantly improved compared to previous BABAR measurements. Evidence is found for the decay B+→X(3872)K+ at the 3σ level. The absolute branching fraction B[B+→X(3872)K+]=[2.1±0.6(stat)±0.3(syst)]×10-4 is measured for the first time. It follows that B[X(3872)→J/ψπ+π-]=(4.1±1.3)%, supporting the hypothesis of a molecular component for this resonance.

Adler function and hadronic vacuum polarization from lattice vector correlators in the time-momentum representation

2014

We study a representation of the hadronic vacuum polarization based on the time-momentum representation of the vector correlator. This representation suggests a way to compute the hadronic vacuum polarization and the associated Adler function for any value of virtuality, irrespective of the flavor structure of the current. We present results on both of these phenomenologically important functions, derived from local-conserved two-point lattice vector correlation functions, computed on a subset of light two-flavor ensembles made available to us through the CLS effort.

Lattice QCD calculation of the electroweak box diagrams for the kaon semileptonic decays

2021

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the axial $\gamma W$-box diagrams relevant for the kaon semileptonic decays. We utilize a recently proposed method, which connects the electroweak radiative corrections in Sirlin's representation to that in chiral perturbation theory. It allows us to use the axial $\gamma W$-box correction in the SU(3) limit to obtain the low energy constants for chiral perturbation theory. From first principles our results confirm the previously used low energy constants provided by the minimal resonance model with a significant reduction in uncertainties.

Updated Z Parameters, and Standard Model Fits from Electroweak Precision Data

1999

Data taking around the Z resonance at LEP I ended in 1995, and determinations of the mass, width, hadronic pole cross section and leptonic couplings of the Z boson are approaching a final status. This is accompanied by an improved understanding of the beam energy during the high-statistics data taking approximately two GeV above and below the Z resonance in 1993 and 1995. Together with other precision measurements presented at this conference impressive tests of the consistency of the Standard Model can be made and an upper limit on the mass of the Higgs boson can be derived.

Charmonium resonances from 2+1 flavor CLS lattices

2019

Many exotic charmonium resonances have been identified recently in experiment, however their nature and properties are mostly unknown. Algorithmic and theoretical progress in lattice calculations has enabled reliable numerical investigation of the spectrum below the strong decay threshold, while the study of charmonium resonances remains an open challenge. The main difficulty to overcome is the presence of many open decay channels which are coupled together, resulting in a complex finite volume quantization condition. We report on our recent progress towards the determination of single-channel and coupled-channel scattering matrices in the scalar and vector channels on CLS ensembles. We als…
