Analysis of Torque Developed in Axial Flux, Single-Phase Brushless DC Motor With Salient-Pole Stator
2004
An analysis of the torque developed by a single-phase disc brushless permanent magnet motor with salient-pole stator is presented. The machine represents a new family of brushless disc motors with the starting torque issue appearing to be most challenging. To produce a starting torque, the permanent magnets on one of the rotor discs are distributed nonuniformly. However, this significantly distorts a shape of the cogging torque versus rotational angle characteristic which, in turn, affects a waveform of the overall torque. A three-dimensional (3-D) finite-element model is used for the purpose of determining of angular variations of the torque developed by the motor. To find how the torque v…
Relaxation in a phase-separating two-dimensional active matter system with alignment interaction
2020
Via computer simulations we study kinetics of pattern formation in a two-dimensional active matter system. Self-propulsion in our model is incorporated via the Vicsek-like activity, i.e., particles have the tendency of aligning their velocities with the average directions of motion of their neighbors. In addition to this dynamic or active interaction, there exists passive inter-particle interaction in the model for which we have chosen the standard Lennard-Jones form. Following quenches of homogeneous configurations to a point deep inside the region of coexistence between high and low density phases, as the systems exhibit formation and evolution of particle-rich clusters, we investigate pr…
Parameter properties and stellar population of the old open cluster NGC 3960
2004
We present a $BVI$ photometric and astrometric catalogue of the open cluster NGC 3960, down to limiting magnitude $V\sim22$, obtained from observations taken with the Wide Field Imager camera at the MPG/ESO 2.2 m Telescope at La Silla. The photometry of all the stars detected in our field of view has been used to estimate a map of the strong differential reddening affecting this area. Our results indicate that, within the region where the cluster dominates, the $E(V-I)$ values range from 0.21 up to 0.78, with $E(V-I)=0.36$ ($E(B-V)=0.29$) at the nominal cluster centroid position; color excesses $E(V-I)$ up to 1 mag have been measured in the external regions of the field of view where field …
Mass Segregation in the Open Cluster NGC 2422
2003
UBVRI photometry of the open cluster NGC2422 (age ~10 8 yr) down to a limiting magnitude V ≃ 19 is used to study the cluster spatial distribution and the luminosity and mass functions. From the Color-Magnitude Diagram (CMD), we obtained a list of candidate cluster members based on a photometric criterion. Using a comparison field region and an iterative procedure, a correction for contaminating field stars has been inferred in order to obtain the luminosity and the mass functions in the M=0.4 -3.5 M ⊙ range. By analyzing the spatial distribution, we infer that a non-negligible number of cluster stars lie outside our investigated region. We estimate a correction to the mass function of the …
Exact solution of the 1D Hubbard model with NN and NNN interactions in the narrow-band limit
2013
We present the exact solution, obtained by means of the Transfer Matrix (TM) method, of the 1D Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) Coulomb interactions in the atomic limit (t=0). The competition among the interactions ($U$, $V_1$, and $V_2$) generates a plethora of T=0 phases in the whole range of fillings. $U$, $V_1$, and $V_2$ are the intensities of the local, NN and NNN interactions, respectively. We report the T=0 phase diagram, in which the phases are classified according to the behavior of the principal correlation functions, and reconstruct a representative electronic configuration for each phase. In order to do that, we make an analytic limit $T\…

THE OPEN BCS MODEL, ITS STOCHASTIC LIMIT AND SOME GENERALIZATIONS
2005
In this paper we use the stochastic limit approach as a tool to discuss the open BCS model of low temperature superconductivity. We also briefly discuss the role of a second reservoir interacting with the first one (but not with the system) in the computation of the critical temperature corresponding to the transition from a normal to a superconducting phase.

Dynamical mean field theory: an efficient method to study surface diffusion coefficients
1998
Abstract We test the accuracy of the dynamical mean field theory (DMF) developed recently for the collective and tracer diffusion coefficients D C and D T , respectively, by Monte Carlo simulations of two very strongly interacting model systems. The deviation of the DMF results from the true hydrodynamic diffusion coefficients is a measure of memory effects, which are not fully accounted for in DMF. In the cases studied here, DMF predicts the behavior of both D C and D T accurately, while the memory effects are found to be most pronounced at low temperatures, and at high coverages and stronger interactions. Nevertheless, the computational cost of DMF is just a fraction of what is needed for…
Group Foundations of Quantum and Classical Dynamics : Towards a Globalization and Classification of Some of Their Structures
1987
This paper is devoted to a constructiveand critical analysis of the structure of certain dynamical systems from a group manifold point of view recently developed. This approach is especially suitable for discussing the structure of the quantum theory, the classical limit, the Hamilton-Jacobi theory and other problems such as the definition and globalization of the Poincare-Cartan form which appears in the variational approach to higher order dynamical systems. At the same time, i t opens a way for the classification of all hamiltonian and lagrangian systems associated with suitably defined dynamical groups. Both classical and quantum dynamics are discussed, and examples of all the different…
