The role of social capital in digitalised retail servicescape
2021
This chapter examines how digitalisation has altered the way consumers experience the social interaction and service environment while shopping in retail stores. In this, we draw on the concept of servicescape, which comprises both tangible and intangible features which make up the service experience. Recognising the three realms of servicescape (physical, digital and social), we explore the role of social capital in determining the customer experience in digitalised retail servicescape. We demonstrate that social capital has two specific roles. Firstly, it is an integral part of the customer experience and thus contributes to the service experience. Secondly, social capital is created in t…
‘Interesting but scary’ : Customers' perceived value of MyData
2022
Digitalisation has facilitated saving data in various warehouses. While Big Data is a new form of capital that is often considered an asset for organisations, the potential value of data to customers has seldom been addressed. This chapter discusses MyData (personified and personalised data) and aims to increase our understanding of its benefits and the value created when customers use their own data. The empirical data for this paper were collected from customers of a large retail organisation that adopted the practice of sharing data with customers. This study has found that value accruing from customer’s shopping data is multifaceted and can be either positive (creating value) or negativ…
A Customer Perspective on Omnichannel Customer Journey and Channel Usage : A Qualitative Study
2022
This qualitative study investigates customer behavior during the omnichannel customer journey. The study aims to increase the understanding of omnichannel service environments from a customer-centric point of view. The data was collected by interviewing 10 young adults (from 26 to 30 years old) who had bought a Finnish clothing brand (R-Collection) product via a digital or a physical channel. The research interviews dealt with the interviewees' experiences and channel behavior during their shopping journeys. Our results reflect the multidimensional nature of the omnichannel customer journey and give interesting insights into the usage of digital channels and technologies for clothing shoppi…
Approche communicationnelle et organisationnelle des enjeux du Community Management
2014
This paper describes a research program within Information and Communication Sciences (ISC). This program is based on the understanding of online socialization processes. Particularely, it is focused on rationalization issues for communities forms and rules online. Since the end of the years 2000, this rationalization for online communities is also known as Community Management. We formulate the hypothesis that community management policies spread to whole human activities on the web 2.0, and that community management policies rule the new knowledge mediations.
Energy Efficient Optimization for Wireless Virtualized Small Cell Networks With Large-Scale Multiple Antenna
2017
Wireless network virtualization is envisioned as a promising framework to provide efficient and customized services for next-generation wireless networks. In wireless virtualized networks (WVNs), limited radio resources are shared among different services providers for providing services to different users with heterogeneous demands. In this paper, we propose a resource allocation scheme for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-based WVN, where one small cell base station equipped with a large number of antennas serves the users with different service requirements. In particular, with the objective to obtain the energy efficiency in the uplink, a joint power, subcarrier, and antenn…
Understanding small sports under globalization : a study on women’s American football: the global dynamics of women’s American football involving Fin…
2023
With more attention given to women’s sports, this study focuses on the research gap in women's American football as a heavily under-researched field. The paper aims to examine the global dynamics of women's American football by highlighting the position of the sport in opportunities, challenges, and development process. The study investigates the environment of women's American football by asking the following questions: How is women's American football functioning in the USA and in Finland? What is the nature of international competition in the IFAF Women's World Championship? And what are the challenges and opportunities presented in women's football globally, in Finland, and in the USA? …
Teachers’ professional agency in a centralisation-decentralisation system and a hierarchical cultural context : the case of Hong Kong
2022
Teachers are frontline actors in actualising educational innovations. In some contexts, teachers’ professional agency is undervalued. This study investigated teachers’ agency and its related workplace affordances in Hong Kong, which features a centralised-decentralisation education governance system, and a hierarchical work culture. The study was based on 21 semi-structured interviews with teachers, and employed a deductive thematic analysis. Agency enactment was categorised into 1) pedagogical agency within classrooms, and 2) relational agency in the professional community. The factors contributing to workplace affordances were grouped as pertaining to 1) the collegial community, 2) school…
Beyond “liberals” and “conservatives”: Complexity in ideology, moral intuitions, and worldview among Swedish voters
2020
This research investigated the congruence between the ideologies of political parties and the ideological preferences (N = 1515), moral intuitions (N = 1048), and political values and worldviews (N = 1345) of diverse samples of Swedish adults who voted or intended to vote for the parties. Logistic regression analyses yielded support for a series of hypotheses about variations in ideology beyond the left-right division. With respect to social ideology, resistance to change and binding moral intuitions predicted stronger preference for a social democratic (vs. progressive) party on the left and weaker preference for a social liberal (vs. social conservative or liberal-conservative) party on t…
Student Teachers' Perceptions of the Connection between Literacy, Equality and Digitalization
2022
Digitalization has many implications for the development of equality in societies and is also reflected in education. In a digitalized world, literacy is an essential skill for both individual and societal development. This study explores Finnish student teachers' perceptions of the connection between literacy, equality, and digitalization. The research material consists of professional opinion pieces written by student teachers (N=37). The qualitative study examined student teachers' perceptions of literacy, equality, and digitalization. Student teachers' perceptions concerned pupils' polarizing backgrounds for learning, literacy instruction and the challenge of differentiating classes, de…
Aikuinen(kin) tarvitsee monenlaista kirjoittamista
2021
Lukutaitoa on tutkittu pitkään monista eri näkökulmista, ja säännöllisesti saamme lukea mediassa laajojen lukutaitotutkimusten tuloksista. PIRLS- ja PISA-tutkimukset kertovat suomalaislasten ja -nuorten lukutaidosta kansainvälisessä vertailussa (Mullis, Martin, Foy & Hooper 2017; OECD 2019a), ja PIAAC-tutkimus antaa tietoa työikäisten aikuisten luku- ja digitaidoista (OECD 2019b). Kirjoittaminen on tutkimuksissa jäänyt lukutaitoa vähäisemmälle huomiolle (Kauppinen, Pentikäinen, Hankala, Kulju, Harjunen & Routarinne 2015), eikä edes lasten ja nuorten kirjoitustaitoa ja kirjoittamista ole tutkittu siinä määrin kuin lukutaitoa. Aikuisten kirjoittaminen on jäänyt tekstitaitotutkimuksen marginaa…
