Effect of physical activity counseling on physical activity of older people in Finland (ISRCTN 07330512).
2011
SUMMARY The aim of this study was to describe the underlying theory and the implementation of a 2-year individualized physical activity counseling intervention and to evaluate whether benefits persisted 1.5 years after the intervention. The sample included 632 sedentary 75- to 81-year-old participants. Data were collected in 2003 –2005. The participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group and a control group. The intervention consisted of an individualized face-to-face meeting followed by telephone contacts every 4 months for 2 years, with the aim to increase participation in specific physical activities as well as to increase habitual physical activity. At the 2-year follow-up,…
One-Counter Verifiers for Decidable Languages
2013
Condon and Lipton (FOCS 1989) showed that the class of languages having a space-bounded interactive proof system (IPS) is a proper subset of decidable languages, where the verifier is a probabilistic Turing machine. In this paper, we show that if we use architecturally restricted verifiers instead of restricting the working memory, i.e. replacing the working tape(s) with a single counter, we can define some IPS’s for each decidable language. Such verifiers are called two-way probabilistic one-counter automata (2pca’s). Then, we show that by adding a fixed-size quantum memory to a 2pca, called a two-way one-counter automaton with quantum and classical states (2qcca), the protocol can be spac…

El árbol. Protagonista del paisaje de fin de siglo
2007
Probabilistic European Country Risk Score Forecasting Using a Diffusion Model
2013
Over the last few years, global crisis has shaken confidence in most European economies. As a consequence, a lack of confidence has spread amongst European countries leading to Europe’s financial instability. Therefore, forecasting the next future of economic situation involves high levels of uncertainty. In this respect, it would be interesting to use tools which allow to predict the trends and evolution of each country’s confidence rating. The Country Risk Score (CRS) represents a good indicator to measure the current situation of a country regarding measures of economic, political and financial Risk in order to determine country Risk ratings. CRS is underscored by Euromoney Agency and is…
The effect of pre-anaesthetic assessment clinic: a systematic review of randomised and non-randomised prospective controlled studies
2021
ABSTRACTObjectivesThe aim of this systematic review was to examine the effectiveness of pre-anaesthetic assessment clinics (PACs) implemented to improve quality and patient safety in perioperative care.DesignSystematic review.Data sourcesThe electronic databases CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCOhost), Medline, and Embase (OvidSP) were systematically searched from 1st April, 1996 to 4th February, 2021.Eligibility criteriaThe main inclusion criterion was that the study, using empirical quantitative methods, addressed the effectiveness of PACs.Data extraction and synthesisTitles, abstracts, and full texts were screened in duplicate by two authors. Risk of bias assessment, using the Joanna Brig…
Conservation aspects for chasmophytic species: Phenological behavior and seed strategies of the Central Apennine threatened endemismMoehringia papulo…
2012
Abstract Chasmophytic vegetation growing on the cracks of cliffs in the Mediterranean and in the Euro-Siberian phytogeographic regions shows a great regional diversity, with a large number of endemic plant species, many of them endangered and at risk of extinction. Moehringia papulosa is an example of a threatened plant living in this kind of habitat. It is an endemism of the Marche region in central Italy, whose natural populations are considered as critically endangered (CR) under the IUCN criteria and the habitat is protected by the E.U. (Directive 92/43/EEC) with the habitat 8210 “calcareous rocky slopes with chasmophytic vegetation”. The phenology of natural populations was analyzed, s…
Psychometric evaluation of the Finnish version of the impact on participation and autonomy questionnaire in persons with multiple sclerosis
2017
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the impact on participation and autonomy (IPA) questionnaire. The Finnish version of IPA (IPAFin) was translated into Finnish using the protocol for linguistic validation for patient-reported outcomes instruments. Methods: A total of 194 persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) (mean age 50 years SD 9, 72% female) with moderate to severe disability participated in this study. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to confirm the four factor structure of the IPAFin. The work and educational opportunities domain was excluded from analysis, because it was only applicable to 51 persons. Internal consistency…
The mothering of conduct problem and normal children in Spain and the USA: authoritarian and permissive asynchrony.
2005
Ninety-two clinic-referred and nonclinical mother-child dyads in Spain and the USA were observed in their home settings under naturalistic conditions for a total of 477 hours. Children in the clinic-referred dyads were considered troubled because of conduct problems. The observations were aimed at assessing two forms of mother-child asynchrony, either of which was expected to differentiate clinic referred from nonclinical dyads. Authoritarian asynchrony was defined as a mother's indiscriminate use of aversive reactions to her child, whereas the permissive form entailed indiscriminate positive reactions. Results showed the American mothers to generate more permissive asynchrony, whereas the …
Association of Nursing Practice Environment on reported adverse events in private management hospitals: A cross‐sectional study
2021
Aims and objectives To examine the relationships between nurses' perceptions of their practice environment, other working conditions and reported adverse events in two private management hospitals. Background Patient safety is influenced by knowledge, available resources and the context in which nursing care is provided. In this sense, it has been found that certain work environments (e.g., workload, nurse turnover level, patient-to-nurse ratio, nurse staffing, nurse manager ability) influence patient outcomes. The association between nursing practice environment and reported adverse events has not been explored in private management hospitals. Design A cross-sectional study. The STROBE was…
