Liberté de la femme dans cinq romans de Calixthe Beyala
2010
Calixthe Beyala on kamerunilainen nykykirjailija, jonka teosten keskeisimpiä teemoja on naisen, etenkin afrikkalaisen naisen, asema yhteiskunnassa. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on esittää kielelliset keinot, joita Beyala käyttää kuvatak…

Similar endometrial development in oocyte donors treated with either high- or standard-dose GnRH antagonist compared to treatment with a GnRH agonist…
2005
Background This descriptive study evaluates the impact on endometrial development of standard and high doses of a GnRH antagonist in stimulated cycles compared with GnRH agonist and natural cycles. Methods Thirty-one oocyte donors were treated with a combination of rFSH and 0.25 mg/day ganirelix (standard dose), 2 mg/day ganirelix (high dose) or 0.6 mg/day buserelin (long protocol). Vaginal progesterone (200 mg/day) was administered in the luteal phase. Endometrial biopsies were performed 2 and 7 days after HCG administration. Additional biopsies were carried out in a subset of 12 subjects, 2 and 7 days following the LH peak of their previous natural cycle. Biopsies were evaluated histologi…
Pretreatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists to prevent the flare-up effect of long-acting GnRH agonists: results of a pilot s…
2007
This study evaluated in vivo whether the flare-up effect of GnRH agonists can be suppressed through pretreatment with a GnRH antagonist. The classic flare-up effect caused by 3.8 mg goserelin acetate could not be suppressed through pretreatment using a single dosage of 3.24 mg cetrorelix acetate.
CAN HELICICULTURE ACT AS A TOOL FOR EDIBLE LAND SNAILS’ NATURAL POPULATIONS’ MANAGEMENT IN ROMANIA?
2013
ABSTRACT Edible land snails are intensively exploited and the management of natural populations is a complex issue due the variety of factors involved. Two species of the genus Helix are present in our country, Helix pomatia and Helix lucorum, both of them collected since 1956. Although current legislation regulates the exploited amount and the dimension of collected snails, the exploitable amount is not assessed using appropriate ecological studies. The farming of edible snails has evolved in Romania especially during the period 2004-2008, the first farms being financed by the SAPARD Project. The inappropriate documentation on the matter of snail farming had lead to a quick failure of this…
Data from: Effects of undergrowth removal and edge proximity on ground beetles and vascular plants in urban boreal forests
2019
Urban forests are regularly managed for human safety and aesthetic reasons, but they are crucial habitat for many species. Removals of undergrowth occur commonly in these forests, yet the ecological consequences of these operations are poorly understood. We sampled ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) and vascular plants along 20-m edge gradients in Finnish urban forests, in five stands treated 0.5−2.5 years earlier with undergrowth removal and in five untreated stands. We hypothesized that undergrowth removal and edge proximity would benefit opportunistic and open-habitat species, whereas shady-habitat species would be affected negatively. (1) Regarding carabids, diversity and evenness i…
Characterization of the Teeth Skeletal Matrix from Arbacia lixula
2016
The teeth of sea urchins are highly complex composite structures, composed predominantly of high magnesium calcite, and of a minor heterogeneous assemblage of organic macromolecules that are occluded within the mineral. The organic matrix fulfils important functions in mineralization, in addition to giving the mineral phase peculiar mechanical properties, different from that of purely inorganic calcite. Nevertheless, the composition and function of individual components of the organic matrix still remains largely unknown. Up to now, the detailed protein repertoire of teeth from a single sea urchin species (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus, order Camarodonta) was investigated. In this study, we…
DFT study of N–H···O hydrogen bond between model dehydropeptides and water molecule
2013
The strength of the hydrogen bond formed between a water molecule and two α,β-dehydroalanine derivatives including Ac-ΔAla-NMe2 (1) and Ac-ΔAla-NHMe (2) in comparison with standard amino acid Ac-Ala-NMe2 (3) is studied by density functional theory (with M06-2X and B3LYP functionals). Calculations were conducted for two different conformations of the peptides: extended (C5) and bent (β) with polyproline II backbone dihedral angles. The obtained results show that both dehydro and standard peptides in bent conformation form stronger hydrogen bonds with water than in the extended ones. Moreover, due to higher polarity of the N–H group of α,β-dehydroalanine residues, the H-bond in their complexe…

Selective Extraction and Efficient Binding in a Protic Solvent of Contact Ion Triplets by Using a Thiourea-Based Bis-Calix[6]arene Receptor
2013
We report a D3h-symmetric tail-to-tail bis-calix[6]thiourea 5 that displays two divergent cavities triply connected by thiourea linkages. This calix[6]tube was efficiently synthesized through a [1+1] macrocyclization reaction and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. The binding properties of this heterotritopic receptor were evaluated in a protic environment (i.e., CD3OD/CDCl3) through NMR studies. Thus, bis-calix[6]thiourea 5 exhibits a remarkable ability in the cooperative complexation of an anion sandwiched between two ammonium ions, a high selectivity for ammonium sulfate salts being observed. The anion is bound through multiple hydrogen-bonding interactions at the thiourea bind…
