2012

This thesis looks at happiness as perceived and shown in Christian Bobin's works. For this purpose, we used the approach of Bachelard to define Bobin’s symbolic element of happiness: the flame. To deal with the problem of time and its complexity, involved in our main problem, we applied theories of Bachelard, Bergson and those of modern physics, as well as the “logic of the contradictory” (of Lupasco). The images associated with intellect are analyzed based on Henry Corbin's works and are defined as “image- body-reality”. They testify of a mysticism which tends to “geopoetic” and the Unity of the universe. A language of “anima / animus” and a process of production of meaning, “the helix of …

Tres artistas en el exilio: Max Aub, Félix Candela y Josep Renau

2020

Three artists in exile focuses on the historical diaspora provoked by the Spanish civil war (1936- 1939), and how it influenced three prominent figures of the cultural scene of that period: the writer and typographer Max Aub Mohrenwitz (Paris, 1903-Ciudad de Mexico, 1972); the architect Félix Candela Outeriño (Madrid, 1910-Raleigh, US, 1977); and the artist Josep Renau Berenguer (Valencia, 1907-Berlín, 1982). They are the three protagonists of this article, who were simultaneously living in Mexico during the exile and who made notable contributions in the fields of arts and humanities (Max Aub), architecture (Félix Candela), and graphic design and photomontage (Josep Renau). Distinct 5' SCL enhancers direct transcription to developing brain, spinal cord, and endothelium: neural expression is mediated by GATA factor bindin…

1999

The SCL gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor with a pivotal role in the development of endothelium and of all hematopoietic lineages. SCL is also expressed in the central nervous system, although its expression pattern has not been examined in detail and its function in neural development is unknown. In this article we present the first analysis of SCL transcriptional regulation in vivo. We have identified three spatially distinct regulatory modules, each of which was both necessary and sufficient to direct reporter gene expression in vivo to three different regions within the normal SCL expression domain, namely, developing endothelium, midbrain, and hindbrain/spinal …

Procollagen C-proteinase Enhancer Stimulates Procollagen Processing by Binding to the C-propeptide Region Only*

2011

Background: Procollagen C-proteinase enhancer-1 (PCPE-1) is an extracellular glycoprotein that increases activity of certain zinc metalloproteinases involved in tissue development and repair. Results: PCPE-1 binds uniquely to the C-propeptide region of the procollagen molecule. Conclusion: PCPE-1 enhances proteolysis by binding solely to the procollagen C-propeptides. Significance: These data may lead to future applications in the development of antifibrotic therapies.

Early abdominal aortic rupture after Nellix endovascular aneurysm sealing

2018

This case concerns a 73 year-old woman, that suffered from symptomatic aortic abdominal aneurysm. Due to the complex anatomy of the aneurysm she was treated with nellix endovascular aneurysm seal device. The implantation was successful, and the completion angiography showed no endoleak. On the 9th day after the procedure, the patient presented severe abdominal pain with peritoneal symptoms, significant anemia and hypovolemic shock. The patient was subject to emergency laparotomy. The aortic rupture was identified. The Nellix device was removed and replaced with bifurcated silver-covered PTFE graft.
