Resorcinarenes are cavity-containing compounds when in the crown conformation, from the calixarene family of concave compounds. These easy to synthesize macrocycles can be decorated at the upper rim through the eight hydroxyl groups and/or the 2-position of the aromatic ring. They are good synthons in supramolecular chemistry leading to appealing assemblies such as open-inclusion complexes, capsules and tubes through multiple weak interactions with various guests. The major light harvesting complex II (LHCII) of green plants plays a key role in the absorption of sunlight, the regulation of photosynthesis, and in preventing photodamage by excess light. The latter two functions are thought to involve the lumenal loop and the N-terminal domain. Their structure and mobility in an aqueous environment are only partially known. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) has been used to measure the structure of these hydrophilic protein domains in detergent-solubilized LHCII. Protected but Accessible: Oxygen Activation by a Calixarene-Stabilized Undecagold Cluster

DFT computations show that calixarenes stabilize subnanometer Au11 clusters allowing access of small molecules like O2 to reactive metal sites in the core. Maximum of three dioxygen molecules can bind to the cluster, and they are activated to a superoxo O2(-) state. This study predicts that gold clusters could act as viable oxidation catalysts at ambient conditions based on similar principles as the metal centers in enzymes.

Anion Responsive Molecular Switch Based on a Doubly‐Strapped Calix[4]pyrrole

A calix[4]pyrrole receptor bearing two proximally meso - meso linking isophthaloyl straps displays open and closed states depending on the calix[4]pyrrole conformation. In the crystal structures and in non-polar solvent, the calix[4]pyrrole adopts open 1,3-alternate conformation with straps on the sides. Anion binding triggers a closed state of the receptor providing two types of interactions with an aromatic benzoate guest: hydrogen bonds from the pyrrolic groups and π ··· π interactions from the phenyl groups of the straps. Tässä tutkimuksessa oli tavoitteena selvittää mitkä tekijät vaikuttavat Netflixin käyttöön. Online-videopalveluiden käyttö on Suomessa jo varsin yleisellä tasolla (Karkimo, 2015) ja sen vuoksi on tärkeä ymmärtää mitkä tekijät käyttöön vaikuttavat, jotta palvelua voidaan kehittää ja asiakkaita palvella entistä paremmin. Netflixin käytttöön vaikuttavia tekijöitä ei olla aiemmin suoraan tutkittu. Introduction Endovascular aneurysm sealing (EVAS) with the Nellix system was introduced to reduce endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) perioperative complications, especially endoleaks. Herein we report a case of successful type 1A endoleak managed with detachable coils embolization after EVAS. Presentation of case A 77-year-old male was referred for abdominal pain. The angio-CT scan confirmed the previous EVAS procedure and showed a type Is2 endoleak below the right renal artery resulting in a 2.5 cm aortic blister with contrast medium filling the space between the aortic wall and the endobags.
