Digital skills and application use among Finnish home care workers in the eldercare sector

2021

This chapter explores the role digital skills, interest in technology, and social support have in home care workers’ use of digital applications at work. The empirical research is based on the 2019 University of Jyväskylä survey study on eldercare work (N = 6,903), drawn from the members of four majors trade unions in Finland. In this chapter, a sub-sample of home care workers (n = 1,398) is used in the analyses. Structural equation models are used to estimate the direct and indirect effects of available technology support, digital skills, and interest in technology on the actual use of various digital applications at work. According to the results, technology support has no direct effect o…

Prader–Willi Syndrome with Angelman Syndrome in the Offspring

2021

We report the second case, to the best of our knowledge, of a mother with Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS) who gave birth to a daughter with Angelman syndrome (AS). The menarche occurred when she was 16, and the following menstrual cycles were irregular, but she never took sexual hormone replacement therapy. At the age of 26, our patient with PWS became pregnant. The diagnosis was confirmed by molecular genetic testing that revealed a ~5.7 Mb deletion in the 15q11.1–15q13 region on the paternal allele in the mother with PWS and the maternal one in the daughter with AS, respectively. Both the mother with PWS and the daughter with AS showed peculiar clinical and genetic features of the two syndrom…

The angelman syndrome: A brief review

2017

Angelman's Syndrome (AS) was described for the first time by Harry Angelman in the 1960s, based on obervation of three child patients with similar physical and behavioral features such as severe intellectual impairment, lack of language, motor disorders and happy behaviour. Many years later the typical patients' features were identified as linked to genetic abnormalities mainly characterized by neurological symptoms. Life expectancy is good although the symptoms tend to be stable and severe.

Interaktīvais kino. Filmas "Black mirror: Bandersnatch" analīze

2022

Darbs sastāv no četrām nodaļām.

Substituted 1,4-Diaza-1,3-butadiene Monocyclopentadienyl Titanium Complexes. Crystal Structure of Ti(η5-C5Me5)(η4-iPrNCHCHNiPr)Me

2000

We report the synthesis of 1,4-diaza-1,3-butadiene (dad) complexes Ti(η5-C5R5)(η4-R‘2-dad)Cl (R = H, Me; R‘ = iPr, tBu) by reaction of Ti(η5-C5R5)Cl3 (R = H, Me) with the dilithium salts of diisopropyl- and di-tert-butyl-substituted 1,4-diaza-1,3-butadienes (Li2[R‘2-dad]). Alkylation of the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl diisopropyl and di-tert-butyl derivatives with methylmagnesium chloride and methyllithium gave complexes Ti(η5-C5Me5)(η4-iPr2-dad)Me and Ti(η5-C5Me5)(η4-tBu2-dad)Me, respectively. Addition of excess water to di-tert-butyl chloro complexes gave the oxo-bridged complexes [{Ti(η5-C5R5)(η4-tBu2-dad)}2(μ-O)] (R = H, Me). The temperature-dependent spectroscopic behavior of Ti(η5-C5H…

Stackelberg Equilibrium with Many Leaders and Followers. The Case of Setup Costs

2016

I provide conditions that guarantee that a Stackelberg game with a setup cost and an integer number of leaders and followers has an equilibrium in pure strategies. The main feature of the game is that when the marginal follower leaves the market the price jumps up, so that a leader’s payoff is neither continuous nor quasiconcave. To show existence I check that a leader’s value function satisfies the following single crossing condition: When the other leaders produce more the leader never accommodates entry of more followers. If demand is strictly logconcave, and if marginal costs are both non decreasing and not flatter than average costs, then a Stackelberg equilibrium exists. Besides showi…

Topology and accessibility of the transmembrane helices and the sensory site in the bifunctional transporter DcuB of Escherichia coli.

2011

C(4)-Dicarboxylate uptake transporter B (DcuB) of Escherichia coli is a bifunctional transporter that catalyzes fumarate/succinate antiport and serves as a cosensor of the sensor kinase DcuS. Sites and domains of DcuB were analyzed for their topology relative to the cytoplasmic or periplasmic side of the membrane and their accessibility to the water space. For the topology studies, DcuB was fused at 33 sites to the reporter enzymes PhoA and LacZ that are only active when located in the periplasm or the cytoplasm, respectively. The ratios of the PhoA and LacZ activities suggested the presence of 10 or 11 hydrophilic loops, and 11 or 12 α-helical transmembrane domains (TMDs). The central part…

Glutamate 270 plays an essential role in K+-activation and domain closure ofThermus thermophilusisopropylmalate dehydrogenase

2014

The mutant E270A of Thermus thermophilus 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase exhibits largely reduced (∼1%) catalytic activity and negligible activation by K(+) compared to the wild-type enzyme. A 3-4 kcal/mol increase in the activation energy of the catalysed reaction upon this mutation could also be predicted by QM/MM calculations. In the X-ray structure of the E270A mutant a water molecule was observed to take the place of K(+). SAXS and FRET experiments revealed the essential role of E270 in stabilisation of the active domain-closed conformation of the enzyme. In addition, E270 seems to position K(+) into close proximity of the nicotinamide ring of NAD(+) and the electron-withdrawing effect…
