Abstract We evaluated the Panbio™ COVID‐19 Ag Rapid Test Device as a point‐of‐care diagnostic tool for COVID‐19 in 357 patients at a pediatric emergency department. Thirty‐four patients tested positive by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, of which 24 were positive by the antigen assay. The sensitivity and specificity of the assay were 70.5% and 100%, respectively.

Oral lesions in HIV positive AIDS adolescents perinatally infected undergoing HAART

Objective: To assess the prevalence of the oral lesions related to HIV-infection (HIV-OL) in HIV+/AIDS adolescents (=13 years old), and the differences with HIV+/AIDS children (=3 - 0.05). Oral candidiasis was the most prevalent oral lesion in both groups. Association (p <0.05) of a high prevalence of HIV-OL and oral candidiasis with a high viral load was observed in both study groups. Conclusions: Adolescents perinatally HIV-infected have a high prevalence of HIV-OL. Oral candidiasis still is the most frequent oral opportunistic infection. Oral lesions could have association to viral failure in HIV+/AIDS adolescents undergoing HAART

Factors Associated with Nonsuppression of HIV Infection in the Spanish VACH Cohort.

We aim to determine the prevalence of HIV nonsuppression and factors associated with it. This is a cross-sectional multicenter study carried out in January 2016 with data of the VACH Cohort, a registry participated by 23 hospitals from most regions of Spain. The prevalence of HIV nonsuppression, defined as HIV RNA ≥200 copies/mL, is documented. The possible association of HIV nonsuppression with sociodemographic and clinical variables is assessed with a logistic regression analysis. A total of 30,843 adult patients are included; 7,358 of them (23.86%) have nonsuppressed HIV. Steady states and nonlinear buckling of cable-suspended beam systems

This paper deals with the equilibria of an elastically-coupled cable-suspended beam system, where the beam is assumed to be extensible and subject to a compressive axial load. When no vertical load is applied, necessary and sufficient conditions in order to have nontrivial solutions are established, and their explicit closed-form expressions are found. In particular, the stationary solutions are shown to exhibit at most two non-vanishing Fourier modes and the critical values of the axial-load parameter which produce their pitchfork bifurcation (buckling) are established. Alcohol drinking is highly prevalent in many cultures and contributes to the global burden of disease. In fact, it was shown that alcohol constitutes 3.2% of all worldwide deaths in the year 2006 and is linked to more than 60 diseases, including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, liver cirrhosis, neuropsychiatric disorders, injuries and foetal alcohol syndrome. Infections caused by viruses are difficult to treat due to their life cycle, which depends on the replication machinery of the respective host cells. Commonly used antiviral strategies are based upon the application of, e.g., entry inhibitors and other compounds that interfere with virus replication. Concurrent molecular dynamics simulation of spinodal phase transition on transputer arrays

Abstract We describe a concurrent implementation on cost-effective transputer arrays of a molecular dynamics program to efficiently simulate physical systems consisting of thousands of mobile particles with an interaction range much shorter than the system dimensions. This program, which uses a geometric decomposition strategy and includes a distributed dynamic load balancer, has been extensively tested by simulating the two-dimensional spinodal phase separation of a large Lennard-Jones system.

Intramolecular Interactions in the Triplet Excited States of Benzophenone–Thymine Dyads

Time-resolved and product studies on the synthesized dyads 1 and 2 have provided evidence that the benzophenone-to-thymine orientation strongly influences intramolecular photophysical and photochemical processes. The prevailing reaction mechanism has been established as a Paterno-Büchi cycloaddition to give oxetanes 3-6; however, the ability of benzophenone to achieve a formal hydrogen abstraction from the methyl group of thymidine has also been evidenced by the formation of photoproducts 7 and 8. The dimerization of anthracene by a [4π + 4π] cycloaddition is one of the oldest and best known reactions in photochemistry. In the series of tethered bichromophoric arenes, this reaction type could be extended to anthracene–naphthalene, naphthalene–naphthalene and recently even to anthracene–benzene and naphthalene–benzene systems. Cyclophanes, which can be regarded as twofold or multiple tethered systems, are not discussed here.
